Over the last few years I have lived right down down the road from Tipsy's Liquor World off C470 and Bowles. I love their beer selection (especially the bomber room) Since I liked the selection I have always overlooked the extremely rude check out people. If you need to see my ID then just ask for my ID. Don't just awkwardly stare at me until you roll your eyes and rudely ask for my ID. The prices are also 10-25% higher then other stores.

The other day was the last time I will ever step foot inside that place.
I was perusing the bomber room when I stumbled across a stash of Christmas Bomb. I grabbed 4 bottles and skipped out the door anxiously awaiting one of my all time favorite stouts. I opened a bottle and poured half of it in my favorite glass. I eagerly smelled it and to my dismay, it smelled like rancid, sour, garbage. Unfortunately, the taste was no different. More rancid, sour, garbage. I have had this beer several times in the past and their is NO doubt this was infected. No worries, ill take my four bottles back and get something else. A place that specializes in beer like Tipsy's will understand an infected beer.

I first spoke with an older female employee who rolled her eyes and told a manager without making eye contact with me. I then spoke with a male In his mid 20s who said he was the assistant manager. I told him the story in full and showed him the half full bottle for them to inspect and confirm the obvious infection. He took one smell and said "that beer smells completely fine." You can imagine my horror. I told him that I've had the beer several times and theirs no doubt that it's infected. He told me that he can give my money back for the 3 unopened bottles, but not for the 4th half full bottle because "that beer is completely fine." After pleading my case for another 5 minutes and drawing a crowd of employees I got my money back on 3 of 4 bottles and told the manager he was "fucking bullshit." I left never to give them my money again.

I have spent thousands of dollars there and before this incident I planned to spend thousands more. I think it's funny that they will miss out on thousands of dollars from me in order to steal my ten dollars.
Have you also had a problem with getting ripped off at Tipsy's?
Have you gotten ripped off on infected beer?
Does Prairie have a reputation for infected beer?

Is the liquor store responsible for a beer that was infected by the manufacturer? (I really dont mean to sound like a dick)

I always thought the liquor store gives me my money back and then they get their money back from the distributor and then they get their money back from Prairie.

Prairie had / has this reputation from their Noir series...I know that bottles of the Vanilla & Coffee Noir were reported to have infection issues... I don't they've ever had any problems with the Bomb! series though...

I don't know, seems a bit of an overreaction on your part. I mean, you're talking about what, $9-10? They still refunded you for the other 3. I don't think it was worth making a scene and swearing at the employee. Just take the refund and walk out and promise to never return, what's the point of making a scene?

I agree that they should have treated this situation differently, and I think the places I frequent certainly would have, but it seems like a lot of pent of anger over the place. I think you need a beer :stuck_out_tongue:

It doesn't matter what amount of money it was. I don't like getting ripped off at a legitimate place of business.
But yes, I had lots of pent up anger towards that whole shit hole.

The Bomb! series has had issues, thanks to the wax apparently. That's why the newer ones are wax free.

If they are 10-25% higher than other stores then I wouldn't be shopping there in the first place

I've never been a big fan of Tipsy's myself, but I do like their selection of variety pack boxes. I've never gone there for limited stuff because it's pretty out of the way for me (I'm in Castle Rock or FoCo when I'm home in Colorado), but I'm glad you posted about your experience so others will be informed of one viewpoint.

That said, I'm not sure drawing a crowd of employees and telling the guy he's "fucking bullshit" was the optimal approach to the situation.

Side note: thanks for using proper grammar when you describe age. So many people would write mid 20s as "mid 20's" with that erroneous apostrophe. Always chaps my ass.

They're an additional 10 minutes down the road, but I'd take C470 east to Davidson's and Lukas. I don't know if their refund policies are great, but I know that they employ people that understand beer.

Other than their massive mix-a-6 packs I would find no reason to venture to tipsys for beer.

The one bottle of Christmas Bomb also had that rotting garbage/compost aroma & flavor. I just thought it was the messy pile up of adjuncts (coffee, chilies, christmas spices, etc). Split it three ways and couldn't finish it.

Go figure. I actually don't love most of the normal Bomb beers (although Fred's Blend is top notch) but I like Christmas Bomb. Different strokes I guess.

I had actually heard about this story prior to your post since it happened about two weeks ago. Although the details are a little bit different in your account. Granted I wasn't there to witness it. Liquor stores SHOULD normally take beers back that are infected/not to code however it's at their discretion.

Tipsy's has been killing it recently. Their selection is incredible and their prices are very competitive. I will keep buying from them.

No. This does not, cannot in some cases, happen. Once a distributor has the beer, it's theirs. The brewery has no more control over it (unless the two have some contract covering certain things, but most do not). Once the store buys the beer from the distributor, it's theirs. Very few (Coors and Bud) will give credit and take something back. Sometimes, even outdated beers won't be taken back --- which is why some in the industry resist putting dates on beer. CR Goodman won't give credit for flippin anything...and it's an uphill battle to return product broken upon delivery. Not sure about Crooked Stave, but I doubt it since they're new and small. Even then, it's credit and not money. Which means the store could get bottles of something else at no charge (equal, in the minds of distributor, to the value of the returned items)...but have no say what those bottles might be.

With that said, I would expect Tipsy's to honor returns better. But, perhaps they accept a lot of returns, and get stuck with unsold product. Maybe that's why their prices are higher.

I'm guessing you work there? I have no reason to lie about the story. I left out a few minor details but the whole TRUE story is what I wrote.
The fact that you think your prices are "very competitive" is really quite hilarious. 10 -25% higher then other places is far from competitive in my book. And if you don't work there, you can keep shopping there and get ripped off from rude uninformed employees. I go to Davidson's now. Equal selection with better prices and friendly employees. Just hope my 10$ they stole from me was worth the thousands of dollars of legitimate profit of mine they lost out on LMFAO.

We haven't had any of our Xmas Bomb returned yet, but if somebody came in with a half bottle of bomb that smelled like garbage, we'd probably go ahead and refund that. The customer would probably have to put up with 3 or 4 of us beer nerds coming up front to check it out, though.
