Can we bring back the ability to put our town names, instead of just our state, on our profiles?

For traders, this would be a great feature. I sometimes find myself looking for a somewhat obscure beer that only somebody in the local market would likely be able to get and I find it difficult to identify whom to approach when only the state is available.

If unsolicited contacts are your intent so that you can trade for something that you want, then BAs who are non-traders should have the option to keep the town name out of their personal info.

I don't have a problem with your suggestion but would note that I don't make unsolicited approaches to non-traders - there's no point. Not sure why anybody would be concerned about having their town listed but I imagine some folks have their reasons.

Your first post sure made it sound like unsolicited contact based on a city name to procure a beer for trade was your point, so my apologies if I read you wrong.

For example, in the PNW forum, we get a lot of "Visiting your area, IP trades?" type threads. If the poster is from NY, we don't know if they're from Buffalo, Plattsburg, or Harlem, and the distro is going to look different in each of those place. Plus, when there's a thread where someone is asking what beer they should for an event, the available beers are likely different in Beaver Falls, PA, as compared to Montrose, PA. A BA who lives in Spokane, WA has an easy drive to Idaho, which gets beers that are not available in Washington, let alone in a town like Sequim.

Living in central VA, with I95 running right through here next to great breweries, IP trades would be great for me and having my specific location easy at hand would be great.

    Add another reason:
I found another BA in the next town over four years ago because of this feature. We live in a sparsely populated area so fellow craft beer drinkers are few and far between. In turn, he and I were the founding members (if you will!) of our close-knit tasting group, as we continued to hooked up with others around us. Because of that, I have made friends for life. I'd say, at least let it be an option whether you want to show your town.
