Okay, so maybe my questions weren’t fashioned in a truly objective manner. But the calender is turning, time for a new Averagely Perfectly Brew. For two years @VikeMan has moderated a Group Recipe thread on this Forum. Seems natural to continue this trend featuring our own Norseman. Who’s in?

    It's up to Vikeman, really.
The previous incarnations have been interesting threads to follow, and led me to make some pretty good beers. I stuck closely to the IPA recipe, and it was great. The chinook in the stout put me off, so although I participated in that thread, I ultimately ended up making a pretty different beer.

Perhaps something from the new guidelines this go around...

It might not be fair to call out somebody without his/her consent, but if Vikeman decides to lead another charge up the hill, I will tune in for the show.

It would be cool to do something big this time, like a barleywine. Then all the participating brewers would be required to send one bottle to two other participating brewers by NYE 2015. It could be a fun little side-by-side. Of course YMMV.

Just thinking about this the other day, despite reservations about both beers, I was pleasantly surprised about both.

I hope @VikeMan is willing to herd the cats again

Okay. Let's put style suggestions in this thread and I'll either determine the style from that (if it's obvious) or use the suggestions as choices in a pre-poll.

I think one of the things that made the first two group recipe threads so great was that both beer styles were popular brewing choices (meaning that people brew them often) and therefore there was a lot of opinion and thoughts being thrown around.

For that reason, I think Saison would generate a lot of response. Perhaps Witbier as well.

Timing note: From past experiences, it takes about 2 months to run the recipe gauntlet. Figure another 2 months to buy/brew/age, so we will be drinking this future masterpiece NET the first of May. It will be spring and robins will be laying their eggs. What better time to be enjoying a wonderfully concocted Belgian brew? Think of a sparkling dry Saison, or a crisp Witbier . . . a Belgian Pale Ale is great after mowing the yard and if it's a big yard go for a Strong Pale Ale. Of course Blonds are never out of season.

I'm leaning toward a Saison but would enjoy any Belgian style.

For new members/lurkers: If you ever want to learn recipe formulation, here's the chance. Each member can interactive with all the aspects of grain, hops, yeast and how the brewing parameters (time, heat, quantities, etc) all work together.

For Vikeman: Thanks for agreeing! . . . The Averagely Perfect ________ lives on.

I'd be up for Saison, but would also be interested in a Sour Wheatwine.

I'm down for a recipe, for sure!

Saison sounds nice.. even a pilsner would be great, and great timing.. Lagers would be fantastic, since I know many here have commented that they've yet to do one, and I'm sure most have the ability to lager, or want to take the step to lager a beer. Could exclude some folks, but not really sure, so it's a toss up.

Barleywine would be fun, maybe a porter or brown ale? Keep it to the major styles and work our way through some of them?

I'm not really interested in a wit, but would probably participate and brew it if it was the chosen one.

Saison is my vote, I generally have no problem keeping my fermentor warm, so it's one of my favorite styles to brew.
