I tried looking around but couldn't find the answer I was looking for. I plan on checking out Haw River while I'm back in NC visiting family this weekend. Can anyone tell me if they fill outside growlers, or does it have to be a Haw River growler? I know laws are different in NC and SC. Thanks!

I'm not sure what the answer to this is, but I guarantee if you post this question to their facebook page they'll answer it very promptly. They've always responded to my comments/questions immediately.

They will only fill Haw River growlers and they only have 32oz on hand.

Do yourself a favor and get a pint and growler fill of major arcana. It's one of the best dark sours I've had in a long time.

Is that on tap now? I was thinking about going out there for the first time this weekend, wondering what all they were pouring currently and don't think they have it really shown anywhere on their site or social media.

Yep, it's on tap now as is Picklemania Gose (dill gose collab with Deep River). They also have a bier de garde that's on point.

Also worth picking up and trying their #noholdsies bottles. I'm not usually a rye trippel fan, but the barrel aging really does wonders. The Red Wine version is fantastic, IMO.

Sweet, thanks. And yeah I've had the noholdsies, they're pretty solid. I definitely liked the red wine one the most, which was a surprise to me because I figured I'd like the bourbon one the most.

I was told a while back that they will eventually allow outside growlers, but they didn't yet have their tags/stickers made up yet. I believe NC law requires putting a label with certain information on growlers.

When I was there about a week ago, they were out of Picklemania, but maybe they found another keg? At any rate, Major Arcana is indeed excellent and I'm excited for the Cotton Pickin' Farmhouse IPA and Rusted Plow Saison to show up over the next couple months.

Picklemania was on the saturday after christmas. Dunno if it kicked right after that or what. Really enjoyable flavor for a Gose.

Am definitely excited about their offerings. Seems they spent a lot of time refining recipes on the larger equipment before they opened up. Thankfully, they are only 15 min from my house so it's pretty easy to pop in during taproom hours.

These guys are making such killer beers. I had the Major Arcana and Picklemania at Salud's Release the Funk event this year, and they were two of my favorite beers from the event. I'd really love to see some of the Charlotte bottle shops get Cotton Pickin Farmhouse IPA and/or Rusted Plow on tap to try.

I have bottles for sale at work. #NoHoldsies red wine and bourbon barrel aged.
You may not be able to get a 64 at Haw River, but I have a keg for my growler station at work (Total Wine in Durham). I have a keg of Newlan's Belgian Oatmeal Pale and St. Benedict's Breakfast that I will fill 64 oz growlers. I will fill any growler as well, not just HR.

    Youre welcome.

You guys at Durham Total Wine need to post a tap list for the growler fill station (which is a counterpressure fill station to boot). It would be nice to know what's at the station before driving 20 min over there!

I hope I have some of that major arcana in my mouth in the near future.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. For some reason I wasn't getting the alerts for this originally. I'll be going there later today and I'm definitely excited as I've only heard good things!

Sucks they won't fill outside growlers, but looks like my growler collection will just have to grow.

Haw river is putting out some great stuff. I've had a saison and the St. Benedict's dubbel and both were stellar. I'm curious to hear from anyone who has visited the brewery. Is it worth a trip?

Hell yeah it's worth it. Awesome people, setting and beer. If you need extra incentive just pick a good show to go to next door at the Haw River Ballroom.

It's a cool little place for sure. It is tight, maybe 6 or so seats at the bar and some standing room, but it's never been uncomfortably packed when I've gone. There's a bit of outdoor space too. Within the same mill building is the Ballroom, a restaurant called The Eddy, a coffee shop, a butcher, and the Saxapahaw General Store which also serves food. So yeah, pretty neat area.
