We went yesterday. They had Beat It Nerd on draft and it was delicious. Unfortunately no growler fills.

I have a good feeling I'm preaching to the choir, but if it was great on it's own and light in the company of others, perhaps it was unfairly judged in the company of bolder brethren. Or perhaps not.

Happy New Years to my fellow Other Half aficionados and the people I have met there this year! I have a 32 ounce growler of All Green Everything waiting to be cracked as well as a Stone Xocoveza to finish off the night!

Sure this has been covered but will they fill any 64 oz (standard, flip top, etc) growler? Headed to NYC tomorrow and would love
To get a fill this weekend.

They wont fill flip tops, they will fill standard 64 ounce growlers as well as 32 ounce growlers that have same mouth as a 64. This weekend they are only open on Saturday.

Can anyone advise if In Absentia (red wine) is available for growler fills? And how much? Had it at Torst on Monday and it was awesome.

You were right, confirmed it myself, 32oz only. No fills on Rye.

FYI all interested, more V-Love bottles for sale. Not sure if it's a new batch but a couple cases behind the bar.

Unless I'm mistaken, it eems like they've also added a few more tap lines. 10-12 beers on now instead of the 8 or so a month ago.

Yep - they crammed them in the back of the bar. If I'm not mistaken, they also installed a flux capacitor (the Torst pressure system) in the back as well.

I read this thread and got really excited to be visiting Brooklyn to check this place out. Went Friday night and loved the taproom, really enjoyed the atmosphere. Tried the All green everything, green is all I see, Beat it nerd, and Southernhopalistic. I didn't like any of them at all. The IPA's didn't taste hoppy at all, just bitter(other than the all green everything which was just ok), and there was a fusel alcohol thing with every beer other than the beat it nerd and the all green everything. It wasn't just me either, everyone I was with had the same exact comments. So whats the hype of this place? Is it just because it's the only place around or what? It made me appreciate the mediocre breweries in my area a whole lot more.

I'm not questioning your palate, but did you eat something beforehand? Or were chewing gum? I know some people don't like their beers, but it's not even a factor of "hype" any more. When their kegs hit any - and I mean ANY - bar or growler station in the NYC area, the majority kick within 24 hours. Consistently.

My preference and high praises are because they're not afraid to use barley in their Pale Ales and IPAs, the quintessential soul of any beer. That provides a more chewy, full body flavor with a lingering bitter finish. Most East Coast IPAs I've tasted just stick with low levels of Pale malt and overdose the hops which mask the mediocrity of the brew itself. A more commercial example is Brooklyn Blast which really is a well-rounded, malt hop beer rather than a thin hop Bomb.

Again, these are solely my opinions and everyone's taste buds are different, but damn. To say you now appreciate the mediocre breweries around you more after tasting Other Half? Can you give some comparisons of better brews from your area (assuming you're from PA, looking at your avatar)?

That's what I mean. I expected the beers to be very good judging by what I've read and heard. I wasn't chewing gum or anything ,went in with a clean palate. I do admit I'm more of a fan of pale late hopped beers and don't like the chewier ipa's as much. But these beers tasted like malt, hot alcohol and very little hop presence. I'm not sure if that's what they were going for. I'm not sure if maybe they were older kegs? Obviously people enjoy them like you said, the beers disappear when on tap anywhere. But after my trip there I'm dumbfounded as to why. I thought maybe something was up with my palate but everyone who was with me( all very much into beer) had the same exact thoughts. I'm not trying to dump on the place but 2 of my friends got flights and they didn't go up to get the last 2 of them because they didn't care to try anymore. I live in pittsburgh and most of the breweries here are very mediocre( there are a few good super small ones but none getting any sort of hype behind them like other half) I really wanted to like the beer and get some growlers to take home but didn't.

What IPAs do you consider to be "hoppy"? What is your definition of "hoppy"?

The barrel aged stouts were part of a bigger barrel aged program they did a few weeks ago which included 6 versions of their In Absentia Luci Imperial Stout aged in different spirits.

There are only 2 aged versions of that beer left in the tap room, so not sure what you mean when you say "there was a fuse alcohol thing with every beer." The other 10 beers on tap are not barrel aged.

BA put them on this month's cover. So it is not just us locals who think they are amazing:
