I'm sure someone has done it before, just wondering how it was. Don't have many craft beer friends and I don't think I can wait until I get the once a month (if I'm luck) chance to share bottles.

Closest I've come is drinking a bomber of Evil Twin Bozo Beer (17.2%) which wasn't too bad. Just go slow, stouts are fine at room temperature and it's not going anywhere.

That's the nice part about huge beers like that...99% of the time they're styles that taste fine (if not better) at room temperature. So I'll sip until I feel a buzz, then I slow off for a while, then continue. It's like a cigar in beer form; if you pace yourself, you get hours of enjoyment without any ill effects.

Excellent question! I have a Black Tuesday in the cellar and I have been thinking about this exact question. I've never had it before and I'm not sure I know anyone to share it with that would appreciate it, yet drinking it by myself seems a little insane.

I've solo'd a black tuesday and a chocolate rain. I did the CR incorrectly: started at 9pm, was really rough the next day. The BT I started at 2pm - drank it in small amounts for several hours. That was awesome

I have done this. It is actually a pretty fun way to try this beer. Get it down to super cold. then every 30mins-1hr pour yourself a 4oz. pour and keep track of how the flavor develops as the beer warms up. Could take quite a while and get you pretty boozed up, but in the end it is a learning experience.

Also, what kills you isn't the booze, it's the sweetness.

I really like blending GM and CR together. First time I split them with my gf and brother, good times were had. More recently I got a little ballsy and went ahead with a bad idea to start mixing solo. Made it through 1 bottle fairly easily in about 2 hours but with a good buzz. Made it ~1/2 the 2nd bottle in another hour and a half before I really realized I bit off more than I could chew and had to cap and fridge it. One bottle is totally doable but take your time and drink some water.

For reference, 4oz GM + 2oz CR is fantastic... but bring a friend.

Much like @timc100 above me, I've solo'd a CR one night. It was glorious. Too good, I think I finished it in about 2 hours and I would do it all over again. Good luck to you and remember, be safe. Enjoy!

Just buy a champagne stopper and save half for the next day - it will still be great and you don't have to make it an enduro test

I've done it before, it's possible haha. But lately I've been corking high gravity beers and they are still delicious the following day too, so open away.

I too was the same way but I had to drink down the cellar. Almighty reusable cork saved the day

It's doable, just take your time. When you think about it, that's pretty close to drinking a 4-pack of a 9-10% beer which I and certainly many other BAs have done in one evening. And don't drive afterward.
