I hate beer! This should get locked also! What's left to be gained? I wouldn't hesitate to trade with @cavedave even after reading all this either.

I never suggested you shouldn't trade with him. Hell, I am sure I will see him in the near future and will share beers with him.

@mythaeus and @Cuzco I appreciate your generosity but please do not send me a box.

It is certainly not either of your responsibilities to do so.

It is clear communication was the issue from the beginning and appears to be a continuing challenge. Ignorance should not be an excuse especially with the multiple channels of communication that were available in this case. I do not comprehend the idea of ignoring something, forgetting about it and assuming all will turn out "ok".

I can't help but wonder if this were in regards to a BAer with a lesser "Rep" if torches and pitchforks would be out.

I did take responsibility in post above: "I wish I would have made more of a stink back then. That's on me. Here is why I didn't. I had lots more questions about what was a completely new thing to me. But if I couldn't even get a reply to my first request for help, and if I already got stiffed for a box like I did, I thought at the time, just fucking forget this whole thing. That is what I thought based on what happened to me, just fucking forget this whole thing. The person I sent a box to will be a random act of good will, and that will be that, I thought. That's on me."

And: "Do not send me a box as you propose, that ship has left the harbor. Send me the name(s) of who ever it is I supposedly owe beer to, or do whatever else you propose." This in response to wanting to make me whole, something at last that was discussed by others in this thread.

And I have my offer on still on the table, and the others who got together a box (something you could have done without posting this thread, a simple obvious solution to this whole thing) to make me whole, volunteered to send that box to the guy who is supposed to get from me, and that offer, so far as I know, is still on the table.

And I do hope to share a beer with you, but I hope you won't take it personally if I don't join any more BIF's:wink:

We all make mistakes!! Sometimes earning respect by others whether at work, in your home town, or on BA, and putting enough "feathers in your cap" lends to forgiveness or a " mulligan". It looks like this thread is heading in the right direction. If there needs to be assistance with helping contribute towards boxes going out @mythaeus @Cuzco please hit me up with a BM. Or text me Al.

    Cheers!

I'm among those who wouldn't hesitate to trade with cavedave but feel that he's definitely dropped the ball on this one.

Dave, the responsibility you're 'taking' seems to be qualified & grudging. As an experienced & much respected BA member & trader you must know communication is absolutely key. "But if I couldn't even get a reply to my first request for help, and if I already got stiffed for a box like I did, I thought at the time, just fucking forget this whole thing." I strongly suspect that less popular, & (ironically) less experienced, members would have been reamed for this response. When a reply isn't rec'd it's reasonable to wonder if that's because the initial request went astray. This is true even in the absence of email problems & yet you seem to have pretty much washed your hands of all of it without bothering to pursue it further. Why not make some friendly requests in the thread to find out why your request for help went unheeded."Do not send me a box as you propose, that ship has left the harbor. Send me the name(s) of who ever it is I supposedly owe beer to, or do whatever else you propose." (bold & underline added) Supposedly??? Really?

Dmbforever, while someone earning respect certainly lends to 'forgiveness' or a 'mulligan', that respect shouldn't be used to alter reality or provide excuses which some people seem to be doing simply because they like Dave & hold him in high regard. A number of people are asserting that it's really the other guys fault, nobody is out beer or it's merely a technicality that Dave has to send beer. Forgiveness -imo- usually follows making it right which so far hasn't happened here. And while forgiveness, or understanding, might be appropriate, putting a friendly spin on what actually happened (or didn't happen) is -imo- an unacceptable double standard that should be avoided. An inexperienced newbie wouldn't get such a pass & neither should anyone else. Jmo.

From my reply: "Was I stupid to not realize that there was some rule that even if you can't log in, don't choose a team, don't participate in the league, don't receive a box, don't receive a reply to a request for help til the season is over, I lose, guaranteed. Yes, I was stupid. "

How much more do you want me to say? This thread was started to get beer to someone who won and now wants to receive winnings. There was no thread to disclose that I was ripped off, no one got together to send a makeup box to me before now, and I did act out of anger for the things you mention, and I admitted that. Sorry if it offends you that folks give me the benefit of the doubt, but it isn't like that hasn't been after years of generosity on my part. And if I felt like I got shit on, and left the BIF in anger, well, have you or anyone asked the question, other than Al, what to do about my being out beer? And it isn't beer I was supposed to get because I was lucky it was beer I was supposed to get in the shotgun portion.

I thought I was doing the right thing by taking it to the chin, and forgetting about it back then, and that is on me for being stupid, which I said, and if I feel a bit grudging, perhaps you can forgive me as it would have been the second box I sent out, I got nothing, unlike every other person in the BIF, and didn't even get a chance to play. And there was not even a post about the guy who screwed me to warn everyone else about him until a moderator changed the name of this thread. I'd like to think that is not because no one gave a shit about it, but it is a fact.

Thank you to those who know me and stuck up for me, and thank you to those who put themselves in my shoes here and saw my side of things. To the others, well, thanks to you also.

I am in contact with the person involved and we are straightening this out, and now I wish the mods would just close this thread that never should have gotten started in the first place, since such an easy answer, like Al proposed, to the entire problem was so obvious as a better alternative to it. JMO

Dave, this thread would never have been started had you replied to the two messages I sent at the end of the season. One to the group and one to you individually.

Yes, the name has changed however when I started this thead it properly discribed my original disbelief of the situation. Due to whatever reason, I had no idea you didnt have a box. I had attempted to contact the two deadbeat teams via the info contained in the league. I heard nothing in return. I didnt start a "bad trader" thread about BDavidson14 for two reasons 1.) I didn't know he had not sent your box b.) He hasn't been on BA since mid October. I figured I would have to at some point once it was clear he wasnt sending second box.

Again, I was dumbfounded and felt blindsided by you leaving the two conversations and dind know what to do. It was my respect for and knowing you that kept me from posting "wow, cavedave is a dick bad trader because of....." I truly was looking for guidance and suggestions because I could not believe what happened.

I was also in the process of making sure you wer getting taken care of and in contact with a few other stand up BAs.

As stated last night, I hope to see you soon and share delicious beers but this is what I was talking about with the responsibility part.

I can confirm @cavedave reached out to me and asked me to accept a makeup box from @Cuzco, @mythaeus, @dmbforever and others.

I told him I would be more than happy to do this as long as he provided me his shipping information and a window to ship the beer/swag he was stiffed by @BDavidson14. I requested a good range of dates for a shipping window to ensure the beer arrived in liquid and not frozen state.

Once I was made aware via BM from @Cuzco that @cavedave was stiffed a box from the preseason and most likely would not be sending my 3rd place box my immediate response was to him via BM and in this thread was can I send him a box to help!

I think it is clear a bad trader thread regarding @BDavidson14 would have been started months ago had the community been made aware @BDavidson14 was a bad trader.

So dave has offered to make it right.....but he's doing it GRUDGINGLY? WTF? Hell, he's willing to make right even though he feels he got the bone. He doesn't have to LIKE it. Good enough for me. Just my opinion.

Indeed, I agree, and I feel I learned some things as a result.

I learned to pay more attention to the rules of things I get involved in and not assume anything. Ilearned to communicate better, and not be a martyr. And seeing as you didn't even realize a bad trader was stiffing a member of your BIF, I learned that when I administer a BIF to pay careful attention and follow up immediately with any member who doesn't send me a tracking number, so appropriate steps can be taken to either get the box sent or to warn the community promptly, and not rely on waiting for a member to complain, since the bad trader could already have ripped off many folks by the time the complaint is made.

See ya at DC, probably with my doppelganger the Prof.

Locking this for now as things appear to be mostly resolved and we're just circling back again and again over similar opinions and not really breaking any new ground.

Once everyone receives their boxes, please let one of the staff know so we can either reopen this or comment that the circle is closed.

As usual, leaving this up for reference. If there's one takeaway from the thread (IMO), it's that communication in trading, BIFs, etc. is key. I know we all know this but it shows that we should all take a step back here and there and ask if we're doing things the best that we can.
