Just a curiosity (having seen threads for your best beer of 2014, your WOW beer this year, etc.)… I know other websites do this, quite frequently, and with respect to any number of ridiculous topics (i.e. see Grantland for some hilarious pop-culture examples), but has there ever been a BeerAdvocate "Tournament Bracket?" I can't remember one being done in the past 6 years since I first started visiting the site. Set it up like everyone sets up their NCAA brackets: staff chooses 68 beers for the bracket (could be top 68 overall, or the 68 beers with the most reviews for the year, etc., lots of ways this could be decided), and then let users fill out bracket and submit like a poll/vote… the results tallied to see who advances round-by-round. Now I realize, someone will say, "Just go look at the top 250 beers, duh" but that ignores the fun of the match ups between different beers, in all of their hype and glory. I think it would be a blast, and most definitely generate some good banter.

I Know a few Pittsburgh Crafters that could be a number 16 seed.

Maybe take a number one right to the buzzer!

I think there was such a bracket thing done with informal polls a few years ago. The winners were pretty obvious from the original bracketing, as the top four seeds were mysteriously still in it come the end.

This was one done a few years ago, although it involved breweries instead of beer.

I couldn't see a tournament-style beer competition work. Most people on this site have never tasted Pliny the Younger. Others have not tried whatetver beer of the now is trending. I've been lucky enough to taste Weihenstephener Hefeweissbier at the source itself at Freising, but I've never tasted a Heady Topper.

Be interesting to set it up in regions!

I'm game, this would be awesome!

Maybe instead of divisions, we did styles.

I think a combination of all these ideas. A separate bracket for different styles based on different regions. I mean it wouldn't make sense to compare a West Coast IPA with a Midwest sour and a East coast Stout.

This is a fun idea, not sure how to match styles against each other though. Maybe different styles are regions until the final four is something along the lines of sours, IPA/ Pale Ale, Stout, Belgian. This could be trickier than the BCS though.

I think each style would need it's own bracket an championship. Pitting the best kolsch against the best porter doesn't make much sense to me
