Really dumb questions: do you have to purchase tickets before attending this event. Also can you just show up and then enter the raffle there to get one of the Dark Lord beers? If there isn't a raffle, how does it go for distributing the few Dark Lord bottles they do make? I want to finally attend DLD once to say I've done so, and since I was always minorly curious about this event. And with my brother and a few friends of his unfortunately not telling me they were going, I just wanna go and attend this, once and for all. Thanks.

Since you appear new I'll handle this before the dicks chime in.

    1) tickets on sale online, typically around st pats day. There will be an additional extremely limited number sold at the brewery with little notice.
    2) you need a ticket to enter the festival grounds.
    3) there is lots of tailgating in the parking lots, I know people that hung out there all day without a actual tickets.
    4) you need a ticket to purchase dark lord and receive the scratch off to win the opportunity to spend $50 on a ba dark lord.

    * there was also a separate sale for ga tickets last year which you couldn't buy any 2014 dark lord bottles.

Have never attended, but am on the fence about this year possibly instead of Hunahpu day.

Anyone go to both releases and prefer one to the other?

Mayhaps my memory is faulty, but wasn't the issue with trying to bring bottles in to the event itself, and not necessarily sharing outside the fenceline? The Munster Police have, from my viewpoint, been more than tolerant towards the attendees at the event.

And I've some stupid people acting stupidly at DLD, and probably being treated better than they deserved. I recall the last year before the Golden Tickets were issued (was that 2010?) when there was female wrestling occurring in the pond in front of the building next door (NTTAWWTOC!). And it devolved from there, as the day grew longer.

I think the particular issue with the excise folks was people leaving & then re-entering with alcohol. Not necessarily coming in the first instance with alcohol. I'm sure there will be plenty of advance notice if any policy changes from last year.

I believe you are correct. And, I believe, this only happened later in the day. There was absolutely no issue with bringing in anything when the gates opened in the morning.

Yeah, it was after 4 (i think)that the cops started cracking down, because i had left already. I'm glad the prevailing theory is that there will be no carry-over to this year, though.

I am considering making the trip out from Cali, but have a couple of questions. What do you guys recommend for lodging? Most of the places I mapped are about 5-7mi away from the brewery, but wondering if there is anything within walking distance. If I have to stay further away, what options do I have getting to and from the brewery? Is there a bus? Uber? Cab? Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated!

Pretty much only the Hampton Inn is within walking distance and that's a good mile so if you're humping beer that's no fun. There's a bus that comes from Chicago but nothing local that I'm aware of. You should plan on cabbing it. There will also be an epic bottle share the night before at the Hampton and maybe some other places as well.

Wonder what they will do this year as far as layout. With all the construction going on, the main area where the tents and band usually are is completely taken over by construction supplies and equipment for the project across the street.

Wear many shirts, so if you have the urge, you won't be half naked! If you remove all your shirts and become half naked, many will be glad it's the top half.
