Agreed. If those suffering from Celiac disease cannot have any gluten whatsoever, I don't see the point, as "gluten intolerance/sensitivity" isn't really a thing. However, if reduced gluten allows those suffering from Celiac disease to imbibe, then I'm all for it.

Some scientists and other folks believe there is a correlation between gluten and dementia. Maybe Greg just wants us to be healthy and mentally sharp long into our golden years.

It's sort of sad that this sort of stuff was what Stone used to make fun of. Remember Stone Justification Ale?

Now they're riding that crazy fad diet train all the way to the bank instead of telling people they aren't worthy.

Plenty of people are sensitive to gluten. Just because you aren't a full celiac does not mean you won't get sick because you have one beer.

This is also the most internet statement ever. Alpine has been using this same yeast? Does that mean they are "riding the crazy fad diet train"?

buuuuut, as others have pointed out. It isn't glutton free, it's just a sort of glutton lite. So folks who are full celiac aren't going to benefit from this.

I would say that with Alpine doing this without such a big announcement to one such beer, that it's even more evidence that the whole arrogant stone company motto is even more laughable now a days. Much like how Enjoy By was nothing more than something every brewery should be doing... printing the dates on the bottle. Stone really just got absurd with the font size of it and suddenly are praised as great innovators.

Whenever I got my press release at my bar when Delicious first came out, there was hardly anything about it being a gluten reduced beer.

If this wasn't Stone you wouldn't say a thing. Also, imagine this.. a business is marketing it's product! Who would've thought..

While I'm largely on your side of the argument, a couple of notes. First, glutton and gluten have very different meanings.

Second, Alpine did have a big announcement about their yeast and gluten reduction. Was actually probably bigger than Stone's announcement really.

I agree - just had one - not very enjoyable. no nose - bitter finish.
Had it on tap last year and enjoyed it.
Did they change the hops from the tap version i wonder.

I popped a bottle tonight. At first, I felt the same "I want to vomit" feeling that I did when having a beer with the same hops at this year's Alesmith IPA day. By the time I was finishing the bottle, I was actually enjoying it. Maybe it needs to be warmer?

Not a bad beer from Stone. Better than most of their IPA's. I would put it behind Enjoy By and Ruination. RuinTen is just too strong for me.

So much hate for Stone. All they do is brew and pioneer great beer. Oh, and they promote other awesome small breweries. Oh, and they distribute beer for other great breweries. Also, they are the only large brewery I've ever visited that served great beers from other breweries all over the world. Oh, and they added pressure for other breweries and distributors to provide fresh IPAs. And did I mention the great beer part? Companies need to market themselves to grow. Sometimes people take this stuff way too seriously. All I know is that I make my weekly stop by my big box local based on the day Stone distributes to that store. Because that could mean Russian River, Alesmith, etc. Stone kicks ass.

FWIW I thought this beer was really nice.

I don't see much "hate" at all in this thread. Care to cite examples?

Not saying Stone is terrible. They were and still are a great brewery. Stone was my introduction to to craft beer scene from San Diego. That was 8 or 9 years ago. Their IPA was my very first IPA. And that was after I tried their Pale Ale, which I didn't care for. A couple months later I had my first pliny bottle (after trying every IPA's I could get a hold of) and I was hooked. Stone IPA along with Arrogant Bastard were regulars in my fridge. Not today. There are so many better beers from so many better brewery's that's better than Stone these days. And I say that about Pliny and RRBC. Hell, I prefer Blind Pig these days over Pliny. Only because it's harder to find than Pliny. We have a goldmine for beers and beer styles in California. I would consider Stone as a good start for those who's just getting into the craft scene. Before them I would have to say Sierra Nevada, Sam Adams, Anchor, Yuengling, etc. Stone Escondido is a must visit for sure. I haven't been to Liberty Station yet. I still prefer Alpine beers over any other SD beers. I don't remember my last Green Flash beer. I take that back. I had Nelson, Happy Birthday and Duet on draft last year.
