After dominating the Biggest Loser contest at work 3 years in a row I've decided to not be so competitive and just lose my winter fat at a more leisurely pace. For BL contests I gave up beer altogether and for the $100 or so I won it's really not worth it.

This morning I tipped the scales at 223.8. I do a lot of long distance hiking in the summer and I try to be under 200 for that. I have several beers I want to drink and thought I would tie them to weight loss goals to give me a little extra motivation. Here's my goals to get to 200:

    Under 220: Vanilla Rye
    Under 215: FW '15
    Under 210: Freemont KDS Coffee
    Under 205: Darkness '14
Under 200: Gray Monday (maybe have a bottle share)

Sometimes writing out your goals and objectives helps. Feel free to add your own.

I'm of the "eat less, exercise and keep pounding 'em on weekends" mindset. My weekly goal is not to drink at all Monday through Thursday. That said, I do need to eat less and drop a few winter pounds. Though not near what you are going for. Good luck, in all seriousness. More power to you.

Beer isn't my weight issue. Eating too much while drinking (or anytime, actually), however...
...also, I hate going to the gym, which hurts as well.

A solid dump and you'll already be able to reward yourself with that Vanilla!

I'm looking to shed 4-5lbs to get back to race weight for the upcoming road racing season. Increased workouts, and healthy eating should do the trick for me, without really having to cut back on the beer. But I like the idea of a reward system for sure!

Damn, what you're describing wouldn't at all work for me. Beers are always a reward and I usually reward myself too often. I spent most of 2014 having at least a beer a night, sometimes 2 and often going HAM on the weekends. Add to this that I just completed a trip to NYC and Boston that involved a lot of beer, numerous bar and brewery visits, and a soreness near where I think my liver is, and I was due for a major detox.

Detox meaning no beer for a while. I always set my sights on a month but that has yet to be achieved. Mostly because I think about beer all damn day, come on BeerAdvocate far too much, and usually have beer involved in all my social interactions (including watching football, which I don't know how I'll do this weekend, haha), detoxing is an incredible challenge.

I guess maybe I can do the opposite of what you're doing, maybe reward myself with a certain beer (as in splurge for something) for every week I go without a beer. Thanks for the idea actually! (It came to me while writing my response inspired by OP's post).

    Fantastic idea!
I am sitting on some Vanilla Rye and Proprietors and my beer buddy has a few vintages of Darkness - these are all perfect goals for weight loss!

Thanks for the idea - now I have to convince my beer buddy we should both do this and split the bottles at each milestone - should be a great motivator!

Not trying to rain on your parade, but if you won the biggest loser contest three years in a row somethin ain't right. Unless you're a professional fighter, 20-30 lb. swings should not be the norm. In any event, I live by the philosophy of working hard so I can eat and drink whatever I want--within reason, of course.

My weight swings like a reverse bell curve every year by 20 or so lbs. Not a professional fighter either.

I am a gym rat though... I Bulk from August through January. Cut from Feb-->End of July

I agree with your statement by and large, but be careful making sweeping accusations about things being "not right".

    Cheers

Alcohol slows down your metabolism. For younger people maybe not a problem, but the older you get your metabolism slows. So not only are you dealing with the calories of the beer, but a slowing metabolism because of it.

It is kind of a braggy thread anyway, so if you are going to show off, it may as well be something truly impressive
I would love to see the reaction pics as well...:grimacing:

Sounds like you have a handle on managing the weight in a healthy way. That's a far cry from dropping pounds to win a contest. I was specifically addressing the information the OP provided.

You are correct! I have a hard time maintaining any weight. I find that I cannot maintain or lose weight unless I strictly count calories and I hate doing that. I do really intense cardio workouts so exercising is never the issue for me. For BL contests I eliminate alcohol, bread, dairy, etc. and pretty much eat lots of white meat, fish, and green vegetables. I only drink water, diet soda, and coffee. I cap my carb intake to under 100g daily and once I get in that mode I can stay there and the pounds melt off. Unfortunately when I stop doing that the pounds come on with a vengeance.

This year I just intend to be good during the week and drink moderately on the weekends.

Best of luck! As with most things, moderation is the key. I know this isn't FitnessAdvocate so I won't stray too far off topic. Focus on being healthy more than the scale and enjoy those beers when you feel you've earned it!

I'm doing the same thing with my whales this year. I need to lose weight and also my fiance is making me drink through the cellar so anytime I hit a goal, I get to drink a bottle from the cellar. Should make things more interesting.

I lost 30 pounds by the end of last year, so I'm hoping to drop atleast 80 more (yes i'm a fatass).

    Good luck OP!

I've never done this, but I could stand to lose some weight. I've gained about 15 pounds, and I need to lose them. I was at about 175 this time last year, and I'm about 190 now. Maybe I'll get a few nicer beers, and try something like this.
