Considering my best friend for 30 years has always been a strict vegetarian, I do know a thing or two about said meals. My friend didn't complain in the least at finding something (pizza) to curb his appetite while we had a few beers. My point is, maybe a vegetarian won't be overwhelmed with options, but considering it's a taproom menu it's not that bad.

It's no different than the other guy complaining about the menu being to fancy - sorry, they don't have white castle sliders, but they do offer a burger and a pretzel. If it's not how fancy the food is, it's the lack of vegetarian options, or the price, or the lack of rare beers on tap, or the patrons are too trendy or not trendy enough? Damn, life sure is tough...

Hey now, compadre! Even White Castle offers vegetarian sliders nowadays~!

On the topic of beer and Surly --especially seeing as this is a thread on the new Surlyville-- have they got their Abrasive tap hooked-up just yet? I had a friend from out of town ask me (and since I live in the neighborhood and since is From Far Away and is too old and decrepit to learn how to use a "Tweeterfeed", I thought that I'd ask, here.)

Ha! One can only imagine if those things destroy a bathroom like the beef(so they claim) sliders...

A medium rare rib eye sounds really good right now.

Sorry to derail this fascinating thread.

Some people you just can't argue with. My apologies for mentioning the obvious. Let's move on.

But they are clearly a restaurant and a brewery. Wait, restaurant is French word. They are obviously putting on airs.

One way street? Veggies and Vegans are not one in the same, and places that overtly cater to either are few and far between. Carnivores have nothing to complain about in our culture.

Exactly. If carnivores are tired of hearing about vegans/ vegetarians imagine how sick v/v's are hearing about meat....... I do think this thread has ran its course.

FYI, there are zero options for carnivores on Surly's new food menu.

Let's not jump the gun, I think we're close to achieving global harmony between vegetarians and carnivores

Moe: The "garage"? Hey fellas, the "garage"! Well, ooh la di da, Mr. French Man.
Homer: Well what do you call it?
    Moe: A car hole!

Well, nobody's dropped a "gluten free" grenade in it yet.

Make sure to check that there aren't two large bearded fellows sleeping in the back before you make your getaway from the zombies.

I'm absolutely appalled that Surly hasn't brewed a gluten-free beer to serve just for me and my gluten-free friends at their new brewery!!!

stopped by for a pint today. nice little place. packed house. needs more seating. the bar was full, many people standing behind others that were seated. i made the mistake of sitting down at a table after grabbing a pint. they apparently get mad if you do that.

overall, impressive place. hopefully they figure out the seating once the hype dies a bit.

I'm actually impressed that you walked past the host/hostess, up to the bar, got a drink and then sat yourself at a table with other guests.

I was there Friday night, snagged an Abrasive upstairs and then found a bar seat after waiting no more than 5 minutes for a couple people to leave.

Had the pheasant terrine which was great and did come with bread and pickles, if you don't like meat.

My better half had mussels and loved them. They are steamed in a garlic beer sauce and served with big chunks of bacon.

We spent no more than $50 on dinner for two with two beers each.

I can't really think of a reason to complain but maybe my temperament has just been mellowed by copious amounts of alcohol.
