I just had a 10 oz pour of KBS at a spot kind of close to me. Was happy there wasn't a line for it, so as soon as I saw it I ordered one.

the bill comes. $14. that just seems ridiculous.

Welcome to the world of craft beer, circa 2015. What town was this in?

that seems high even for craft beer in 2015.

well at least you know where to find KBS for a little bit, right?

also, unless they recently acquired it, they are probably reflecting on the fact that they cellared it for 9 months.

bar near me tapped it when it was fresh, and I thought $10 for 9oz pour was a bit hefty. This is insane! I was concerned when they tapped backwoods, then I remembered when I got there that backwoods doesn't have nearly the hype train KBS does, and loved me 12oz $7 pour

In Bedminster, NJ. Even in NYC that would be a lot, but this place isn't even close to paying NYC rents.

i was kind of glad no one was there, maybe they will learn.

It's high but not crazy, as what beer doesn't cost 2 X what you can buy it for in a bottle shop? I pay $7 or $8 whenever I am able to find KBS at a liquor/store/bottle shop. I would hate to see what that place would charge for a CBS pour though.

There was a place in GR that had CBS at 5oz. for $11.

They still had KBS leftover from their Founders tap takeover Thursday? Wow. I was supposed to go but something came up.

I had a similarly priced pour of '14 and prefer the bottle by a longshot.

10oz of Abraxas was $12 last night for me. and that is much easier to find than KBS.

I don't think this is that bad for a bar. On the higher end, yes, but we have no idea how upscale this establishment was

The "classiness" of the restaurant has nothing to do with it. They all buy their kegs at the same price. And I wouldn't be happy with paying $14 for any 10oz pour of beer. The Morris Tap and Grill had a KBS day and I think their pours were around the $8-9 dollar range.

I paid $10 for my 10 oz. pour of CBS at a "hotel bar" in Kalamazoo. Sticker shock aside, I realized 1. I may never get a chance to try this beer again and 2. I'd rather pay $1/oz for something amazing, than half as much for something that doesn't even come close. Or something like that. (Way I figured it, my CBS at $10 > two or three pints of anything else they had on tap.)

Except that it does. Upscale places charge higher prices for just about everything. You're partly paying for the atmosphere, and the more exclusive nature of the establishment. You don't walk into a nice steak house and expect to pay the same price that you would pay at the local Applebees.

This is true, even if it's a money grab at its finest. I probably should have changed it to "it SHOULDN'T have anything to do with it" Granted you can almost guarantee that not a single person complained that they got to drink KBS, even at a hefty mark-up.

So you saw it on the menu, it didn't have a price next to it and you blindly ordered it without asking how much a pour was?

If so, it's not the bar's fault that you paid $14 for a pour. It's your fault for not asking the price before the beer hit the glass.
