Well it's almost here, I think I'll be picking up a case and I was wondering what kind of trades can expect to get done. I saw a lot of fairly crazy offers last year but wasn't comfortable trading yet at the time so I didn't get in on the action. The reason I ask about it is that 90% of the threads I saw were "FT Hopslam, ISO beer x" and saw no real indication of what was actually getting done, so maybe some of it was people being unrealistic. I was thinking about going for some stuff that isn't available around me but others may have a lot of. Mostly stouts/barleywines or similar things that I could hang onto for a while, or perhaps some harder to find IPAs that are well regarded. I am wondering what's fair to ask for. For example:

    Regular BCBS, 2:1?
    Parabola, 4:1? 6:1?
    Heady, Sip of Sunshine, 1:1?
I saw someone offering 12 hopslams for 1 Grey Monday I think.
    Prairie Bomb, ??:1 ?

I think people who actually got the Hopslam were out looking for stuff that may have been out of their reach but I'm not sure what kind of deals were being actually completed. And I know that a factor in this is how easy it is to find in certain areas of the country compared to others. I know Bells has very wide distro nowadays.

When you see many FTs and little ISOs, that is a pretty good indication that a lot of people have it and think it is more tradeable than it really is.

Use this link to help you determine what state (s) get distribution of the beer(s) you are offering and which ones don't. This should help you in any trade you seek out as a good starting point for what you might be asking in return.

Hopslam sees a pretty wide distribution. if you want to trade some then look for states that dont gets Bells and trade for some good local brewery beer. those trades are often pretty fun. ive traded some for Pliny in the past but i know Cali gets Bells now so that might be tough.

Thanks for the input, I'll probably just keep my eye out for interesting offers. CA beers sound like a good bet since Bells still sees almost no distro there. I mentioned Parabola as an example since when I was there a few weeks ago I found four varieties of the BA beers just sitting on the shelf, although that particular one was kind of far out of season.
This is kind of what I was thinking. People were asking for a lot of different stuff and it didn't look like there were many bites.

I've traded a six pack of Hopslam for a Mother of all Storms each of the last three years.

That is basically all you can do is keep an eye out & be very quick to DM the person. I didn't plan on trading Hopslam last year but I saw some offers out there & jumped on them quickly. I don't remember everything that I got but i traded away about a case to multiple people & I know one was 6 Hopslam for 4 Heady which was great since it was my 1st time getting Heady

I'm sending a thank you box of Hopslam to a good friend in Cali, but I'm probably destroying the value of this beer, blah, blah, blah.

Didn't buy any last year won't this year, might grab one on tap if I see it though. Not worth the price imo.

I think I am going that route this year. Tap if I see it, and most likely purchasing zero bottles.

After disappointment from last year (probably because I finally knew better), I'm in this same boat. I may grab 1 to drink, and some to extra if I do trades around release time, but I'm not buying more than 1 for myself. I may even skip that and just get a pour on tap like you and @nc41 said.

Oops...to answer the OP. You should be able to trade with people who got into trading within the past year and don't have access to it. It's pretty much $4$ for any beer you want to try and can't get where you are, not bottle ratio.

Don't see it trading well at all...maybe for other locals from people who don't see distro, like others have said.

Not sure why this beer is so expensive. Maybe b/c of the honey? Either way, totally agree with it not living up to the price point. On tap or bust.

Almost a steal compared to what Trillium charges (although Trillium makes the best IPAs in the country...)
