    How do you organize your night of drinking? Decide on the spot or do you think through what styles are better early and which ones are difficult to transition out of?

    Just drink and shut up. :wink:

    I actually just go with whatever is on my mind, and what sounds good. Once I get started, it's easy to keep the flow going.

    I start light and go heavy.

    I like to make a list of all the beer I plan on drinking.
    Then I agonize over the list in an attempt to sort them into a timetable.
    Of course everything needs to be reviewed while drinking, because it isn't fun unless it's quantifiable.

    Here's tonight's program;

    9:00-- kids are asleep... Finally time to have some beer.
    9:05-- pop on Wooster & Jeeves season 2 disc 2
    9:06-- gumballhead ->tulip pint glass
    9:14-- Alpha King -->shaker pint
    9:29-- bramble rye BCS -->founders snifter

    10:30-- go to bed.

    Organization totally enhances the fun.

    A beer after work. A beer after dinner. Watching the ball game with a Dalwhinnie 15 year old scotch.

    The only thing I would plan out is if I want to try 2 beers head to head.
    (Wed I am planning to start with Pliny/Heady face off).
    Other than that, I just go by what feels right.

    If reviewing then always least bitter to most, if just drinking then whatever I am in the mood for or comes my way.

    I just drink what catches me at the moment. Beer is awesome but it's not a vacation, I don't need an itinerary.

    I think your putting too much thought into having a beer. If your hosting a tasting I understand your process. Order what sounds good ,have some nice conversation and enjoy life. Take care.

    If I am going to write a review, I generally know I am going to do it and review the first beer I have of the day. Anything beyond that, and I think my opinion could be tainted.

    If I am just going to have a beer I drink whatever I am in the mood for, or whatever is in the front of my fridge.

    I'm surprised that most people don't think about this at all. When I open >$100 worth of beer with a couple of friends, I'd like to make the most out of our palettes. Call me crazy, but I think it is worth putting at least a little thought into it.

    That's more of a tasting than a "night of drinking"

    for my, a night of drinking is usually dictated by what is on tap at the bars, and which bars we end up visiting that night.

    A tasting would be thought out, from least bitter to most, lightest to darkest. That's the traditionalist approach.

    Starting at 8pm EST

    1. Go to fridge
    2. Open door
    3. Stare at beers for 60 seconds, grab most interesting one
    4. Grab random glass
    5. Pour beer
    6. Take picture to post in LNBA
    7. Drink
    8. If baby stays asleep repeat steps 1-7

    Start out with a homebrew or two, least bitter to most.
    If anything interesting is in the fridge, that's next.
    Another homebrew or two.
    Sneak out to garage and pound crappy beer when wife isn't looking.
    Sleep well.

    What can I say? I always have a lot of good beer around and my friends can put it away with the best of them, but they also appreciate craft beer. A typical football game at my house will run me three-figures. We don't call them tastings, and it isn't the main reason we get together, but tasting new and interesting beer tends to be a large part of our evening.

    You should stop betting on the Eagles then.

    Exactly. If it isn't the main reason you get together, drink them in any order you please, whatever you desire at that time.

    If not, organize.

    If you want to organize anyway, organize anyway.

    Cheers, and enjoy the games brother

    I list my fridge inventory by ABV - highest to lowest. When I'm ready to have a beer, I decide whether I'm going to have a few in succession and go with lower ABV or just 1 or 2 and go with higher ABV. Another plan is to go with what's been in the fridge the longest - but only for the hop forward styles.

    Totally depends.

    Sometimes I just grab something I feel like drinking, sometimes it's a special bottle I've been waiting to try. If the latter, I usually hit that one first when I'm feeling fresh.

    And since I don't especially enjoy anything more than a pleasant buzz—and really don't enjoy that groggy, foggy "coming down" feeling—if I'll be drinking anything >9.5% (especially a 750 or bomber), I open that first. That way if I'm not up for another, it's one and done. Of course, unfortunately sometimes by the time I'm finished w/ #1 my judgment is impaired and then it's all downhill.
