It's the same with bombers...I don't know how many times I've read a person complain about drinking 22oz in a sitting...really? Now that is a commitment problem...an extra 6oz more than a pint you'd get at your local pub!

Drink it or give it to the dog but please don't complain about the quantity

I agree that it may seem like a whale out here in eastern PA, but a number of bars in the greater Philadelphia region (even up here in the Lehigh area) had it last year, and some even had it on tap. The strictest I've seen it sold is with a 2-case limit. I think that discredits it as a whale. Just because our state's laws make it an inconvenient state to sell the beer in does not mean the beer itself is all that rare. When you take into account that it's limited to one or two runs a year, I'd say any limited/seasonal release by, say, Firestone Walker or Deschutes would better classify as a whale in the area. Plus, this beer has a lot of hype around it. Well-hyped products will always sell like crazy (Weyerbacher's Idiot's Drool release is a good example... great beer, but so hyped up that it turned into a madhouse).

And I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that about the more local Double + IPAs.

I look forward to that facebook post every year... hopefully this time around they start selling it on a day I have off.

I'll buy a single once again thinking this year's batch will bring back my early love for this beer. Odds are high I won't buy a follow up sixer.

    Around $17 per sixer.

I love all of the hate in here because it tastes better than I can remember. Had it on tap at lunchtime & it was so F'g good, better than last year's (hope I don't lose my BA membership for saying that) so hate away & I'll drink it everyday over other, in my opinion over-hyped, nouveau dipa's like Dirtwolf, Sucks, etc

I don't see any hate here. I think most of us are saying it's a great beer but not worth the difficulty getting it on top of the high price. Years ago it was a rare DIPA but now there are many just as good or better that we can get easier and cheaper. Not hate, my man. Reality.

Heh, heh. Been going downhill since that first year. And 2014 Westy XII? Pfft, them monks be slackin, bra! Pretty soon they're gonna get taken over by AB-InBev. Distro will improve but it'll really be a drain pour...

Did I cover all the bases?

Fair point..."all of the hate" was wrong, just a little hate. I get that Hopslam isn't the same "big deal" that it was when it originally came out because other breweries have somewhat caught up with similar beers but it's still an amazing beer that I look forward to every year. It just seems to be the BA way sometimes that X beer that was a gamechanger & is still amazing automatically gets hate from some people because Y & Z brewery make a similar type beer & it's cheaper &/or more available where I live so that means that X beer now sucks

We don't get Hopslam in Texas. Closest carrier is Alabama, then Missouri. So yeah, I'd definitely be down to trade.

Yes, I haven't had any in about 4 years since I moved down here. Every year I get a little more sad for missing it. Founders came down; hopefully Bell's will soon. Then I just need Schlafly and I'm all set.

Never had that Pipeworks beer but Chillwave? Dude, not at all all. Hopslam is a very different beer.

Yeah, I moved here from Georgia back in March of '13 and Founders came right after. I agree about the Bell's and Schlafly. Texas has a hard time getting brews in, though. Houston recently started getting Jester King (Austin). Only a matter of time... #RedStatesTurningBrew

I think TX changed some of their labeling laws a couple years ago. Something about ale vs. malt liquor vs. whatever on the labels. Point being breweries needed a different label/naming scheme here vs. most states. When that was changed, a bunch of breweries came in. Beer guy at Spec's in Round Rock told me about it back then but I forgot the details. Hopefully things will continue in that direction. I'd think a lot of breweries would want to get in down here with the population explosion. We aren't lacking, though; I just miss some old favorites.

What is weird to me is several Texas breweries don't distribute state-wide, or at least not extensively. Hops and Grain isn't widely available here, nor is Karbach, among others. Pretty limited Jester King here, too. I assume Deep Ellum, Community and Lakewood aren't too prevalent in Houston.

I find the honey makes a big difference in taste compared to other dipa.

    Is anyone else doing that?
