So a few months back I entered a trade with a BA member and sent my box, which they received, and before my box was shipped out, they had been robbed and all their beers went missing. My knowledge of this came after I had already left negative feedback.
Being a somewhat decent human being, I sympathized with him in the situation and figured he needs the beer more than me so I shouldn't beat him while he's down and make him track down the beers to make good on his trade.

I know feedback can be modified once given, but not rescinded, and because of that I still have an open trade without receiving any feedback that is a sore reminder of the beers I never received. Does anyone know of a way I can get rid of this "open" trade?

As a frame of reference, he has not been on BA since mid October so i don't believe he lied to me just to get out of sending me the trade.

Any feedback/ or shitting on me is accepted and appreciated. Cheers!

Certainly can appreciate you giving them the benefit of the doubt but I could see them not being on since October as something different - they stopped using that account since they received bad feedback for fear it would affect their future trades. Beers had been robbed right after they received your box but prior to them sending your box? Interesting timing there. I'm sure others will ask you to share the BA's name. Maybe others who have traded with them can add any experiences with this person. There might be more to the story here...

Or he lied to you to get out of the trade and started up a new account so he could scam someone else out of their beer...

They had completed 16 or so positive trades prior to that and the beer was worth only about $50, so I guess I had assumed that if someone was going to rip me off on a small amount of beer (in the grand scheme of all the whale trading that happens here) then they clearly need the beer/money more than me.

I know.... Apparently he was moving at the time and it was in a U haul and the U haul was broken in to. It does sound strange but that's life sometimes, right?

As for the answer to your question here you go:

    Open Trades
    • After 90 days, open trades are purged if they haven't received feedback from either user.
    • Open trades that have received feedback from only one user will remain open, and tagged as "open" for both traders until the lazy trader has left feedback. We encourage traders waiting for feedback to remind their partners to leave feedback.

Thank you, that's the information I had come across and since I left feedback and he no longer appears to active then I guess I will forever have an open trade?

Please name this trader. Being robbed of his beer and disappearing soon after that , seems like a big lie.

Assuming this is true as wierd as it is, if that would have been me I would of sent you $50 worth of the best beers I could get a hold of locally. Not a nada, zip, big zero, or I would have shipped yours back either or. I don't touch any beer I recieve until my box is declared safe and sound, just in case.

All I'm saying is that if I hypothetically was into things like robbery, burglary, or breaking and entering the items I would steal would probably be stuff like jewelry, electronics, cash, etc. Not heavy ass boxes of beer

What happens if they won't respond? I had a past trading partner who never acknowledged he received my beer. I left him positive feedback months ago. Messaged him multiple times, he is on maybe once a week but hasn't responded to anything I say or do. What would be your advice? I noticed he has not done a trade since mine, but it still is frustrating having that open trade I can't get rid of.

Edit: Didn't mean to quote that, but either way my question still stands.

I like your approach to just let it go, @Cfeezy , and be done with it. It seems to me people are more suspicious of any reason given nowadays and assume the worse of behavior, scamming, rather than giving the trader the benefit of the doubt, i.e he did get robbed and maybe life circumstances did in fact caused him to drop off BA altogether. It was $50, yes, hard earned money, but I'd pay that toward being charitable and potentially being compassionate rather than suspecting someone with 16 positive trades logged decided to screw you over. Who knows, maybe once things settles, the trader will come back and make it right. It happened before to me.

Who steals beer after a break in? Some high standards there, forget the big tv, cash, Jewelry etc, I'll steal beer? Stuff happens, but realy stealing beer sounds a little to the left. Ever if it's true he should have reimbursed you for the box value as I mentioned in some way, so imo that makes the guy a bad trader. He gets a box and your out, nice.
