Hah. I'm watching some of the ratings pop up. Pretty typical stuff. Obviously tastes will differ but you can easily pick out the trade value manipulators because they rate "whalez" way way lower even than normal beer. Don't make it so obvious guys.

Some guy in New Hampshire just gave it a 3.1

I'm gonna go sh*t on some Portsmouth beers in retaliation...

Can't wait to see all of the fake reviews by the end of the day.

This reminds of of the Board Meeting release a few weeks ago. This guy was proposing a trade and was shipping from North Carolina. I declined the trade and he rated the beer really low like an hour later. Some people...

I feel like that can be a serious issue, one that can't be solved.

Why can't we "like" ratings? It would be so much fun

Because all the 4.8 and above are so much more believable? Does anyone on this site even know what a rating is supposed to mean anymore? Even a guy from Cali has it at a 3.71. I'm going to take that rating a lot more seriously than any of the others, that's for sure.

I think ratings should not be allowed unless you do a review...you know, like showing your work when doing long division in 2nd grade.

I'm pointing out someone who appears to be giving a false review. Or they can redeem themselves here if they'd like. It's one thing buying into the rating hype if your drinking the beer, another blatantly disgracing it. No?

I get it. I do. I get the same feeling about every limited release from some out-in-the-middle-of-nowhere brewery, where "truly passionate" brewers have holed up in a WWII-era grain silo to churn out farm-to-table ales that really speak to the complex terroir of their dearly beloved homeland. It's easy to be cynical, and I'm as guilty of casting a skeptical eye as the next guy.

That said, the simple assumption that the 3.71 rating is any more valid than the higher ratings is baseless. It just is. Same as when I make snap judgements about the ratings for the mythical brewery above. There's just no way to know whether the reviews are legit or not (save for instances where, as noted above, someone from out of state is purporting to have reviewed a beer on release day...)

To think that ratings on this site, in general, are trustworthy sources of information is, how to put it nicely, unwise.

I think it's an issue that a New Hampshire BA account since 2010 with no posts and 15 ratings gave a California brewery only release on release day a relatively low score with no review.

Right... pretty sure you guys are missing the point. The guy who rates it a 4.81 despite it being "not on Chez level" and is then trying to flip 1:1 for KBBS, does he not have a pretty clear cut motive as well? Or the 4.89, no commentary, 1:1 for KBBS or 3x Aaron? It goes both ways, and whenever someone tells me about a highly ranked but very limited beer these days as justification for why it should trade the way it does, my eyes. Glaze. Over.

But y'all enjoy, I'm glad there is finally a world class kiwi sour on the market.

I wouldn't take the Cali guy too seriously. He tried to trade a half drank db huna. In the end you're only going to believe what you want to be
