I've enjoyed the 3 beers that I think can be classified as "hoppy lagers": Victory Prima Pils, Sixpoint Crisp, and Jack's Abby Mass Rising. So I'd definitely try others.

I would like to see more lagers being brewed in general.

All I could get from the Hoppy Lager was a piny nose and a heavily resiny flavor. Not sure what balance means to everyone, but the malt character in this beer was very light and fought to get through the hop character. There wasn't even a clean lager character in the aftertaste -- all bitter hops.
I didn't get any adjunct character at all -- I would have had to taste grain somewhere.

I said it in the Germany forum; I really respect SN and their beers, but this beer from them proves I'm no fanboy. The only other beer I can remember having such a high hop-resin character was a locally brewed DIPA where I'm sure, as you say, they probably just threw hops in the kettle at will.

    Master of the understatement.

The thing is, SN uses no traditional German hops in this beer at all (Palisade, El Dorado, Citra, Equinox), with Pilsner, Munich, and Caramel malts (along with 2 Row) -- I can't taste where the malts went, the hop character is the main act here.

The majority of drinkers digging on this beer have to be hop-heads. Anyone whose favorite is a good Pilsner or Helles -- even Maibock, isn't finding this beer true to a well-made lager.

I'll put some age on the Hoppies I have left (yes, I'm trademarking that and selling it to Lagunitas :stuck_out_tongue:) and see how I like it as the hops mellow, but I'm still seeing this more (D)IPA than any lager I ever enjoyed.

I really enjoy hop forward Pilsners and Lagers in the summer and late spring. It would be nice to see breweries do more of these type of beers for sure. I can only think of three beers like this off the top of my head.

Can't get them here in Atlanta. Thank you, I will still continue to look for them. Hop city is a place I've never been since its in south Atlanta and a nice drive. Going to check their web right now.

Is it really necessary to F up every style there is by cramming as much hops as you can into it? Aren't there enough hop forward beers around already?

Here in the northeast, Jack's Abby started the recent hoppy/geek lager craze & become pretty popular in a jaded market. Personally, as both a true lager & hoppy beer fan, I like about half their offerings.

I like their hoppy beers more that they're hoppy, but not necessarily what I think are great lagers as from the German masters & some selective US brewers which have proven they make good classic ones. But I'm not surprised other breweries are copying what Jack's Abby is doing though.

I like that Jack's specializes in lagers as opposed to ales. Nothing against ales, but I brew many ales at home and there are a lot of ale-centric breweries already out there for years now. I, too, am glad to be in their neck of the woods.

Full Sail Pilsner is probably the best hoppy Pilsner I have ever tried. The Crisp is a good one too!

Hoponius union and mass rising from jacks abby really turned me on to the ipl style. To be honest, at first i thought they were just really tasty ipas

I voted for more hoppy lagers but it depends what we mean by hoppy. I'd love more pils with a hop bite and would probably snap them up but I'm not necessarily interested in, but not opposed too, a flood of India Pale Lagers.

I have tried a two that I actually liked. Both of cleverly named. Sierra Nevada's Hoppy Lager and NEBCO's Hoppy Pilsner. Both discontinued.
Having said that please don't start over hopping lagers.

Hoppy crisp and light bodied is a great combination. I would like to see more of it. Prima Pils and SN Hoppy lager are both outstanding. Leinenkugal's IPL is very good on tap.

For sure. Short's Mmmkay and Wolverine Gulo Gulo are some of my favorite session beers.

Jack's Abby TRIPL was great too.

I know the style gets bashed on a bit, but I dig hoppy lagers for sure.
