I had gotten a good amount of bourbon county and had been planning to age it. When I had gotten back home from a trip, I found all my bourbon county in my beer fridge.... How long can I keep my bourbon county in the fridge and will it age the right way if I wanted to age it??
I have barleywine, coffee, brand stout and vanilla rye all in the fridge....

I'm confused by what you mean by this sentence. It sounds like you mean you forgot you had it.

Anyways the beers will keep for 10+ years, but if I were you I'd drink the coffee and vanilla sooner because those respective flavors will fade. I'd drink them after a year max and the BW and stout after ~3.

It'll age much slower than normal when it's cool

I'm guessing that you are asking because you are concerned about taking it out of the fridge, and the resulting temperature changes. If you are worried about space/temperature in the fridge and have somewhere else you usually age beers, you can take it out, it won't hurt it.

I mean, when aging beer, does aging beer in the refrigerator vs a cool dark basement effect the outcome of the aged beer?

recommend you age at cellar temp (50-60) so in 1-3 years you have something really special :grinning:

As mentioned by my esteemed colleague @basics , can you clarify what exactly happened here?

It will definitely age slower. I personally would keep that coffee and vanilla in the fridge. Some people also feel that the changes that happen at cellar temps differ slightly than the changes that happen at fridge temps.

Refrigerating beer at a colder temperature than 55F will slow down the aging process. Experiment. Refrigerate one and leave the other warmer and see the difference yourself.

Beer ages faster at warmer temps. I keep all the beer I cellar in my basement. Dark and under the house. It doesn't get above 68-70 degrees in the summer which some would complain about, but it's totally fine with me. Short answer, aging in your fridge will slow down the aging process.

It's all personal preference, but I prefer to drink all the BCBS variants within the first 8-10 months. I've had the standard with as many as 4 years age, and while quite good, I prefer that in your face barrel that the fresher specimens provide.

    Good Luck!

    Cheers!!

assuming your fridge is around forty degrees Fahrenheit, aging will take longer then keeping it in a cool, dark place with a temperature of around sixty degrees, having said that, from personal experience i can tell you a year in the fridge will still result in a profound difference.

Sometimes, I don't have the patience for to age beer. But I am trying. I have a Arrogant Bastard Bourbon Barrel Aged sitting in my fridge since October. So I am debating on drinking it soon or aging it for exactly a year at the most. And the reason why it's still in my fridge is because my apartment is too damn hot. Does anyone have any advice for me?

Seems pretty self-explanatory to me. He went on a trip. While on said trip, his Bourbon County offerings grew legs, walked over to his beer fridge, grew arms, opened up the fridge, and made themselves comfortable inside. What's so confusing about that?

My advice would be tell me where you got a BA Arrogant Bastard because I didn't know it existed; other than that, I'm not sure what the barrel aging would do to it but AB is a hoppy beer fresh so the longer you age it, the more the hops will fade and it will drink more like a barleywine. If you don't have any other option, fridge aging is fine, although it will age slower than at a higher temperature.

Yes, the chemical reactions associated with aging proceed in different ways at higher or lower temperatures. So it's not just the speed of aging alone that is affected by temperature. Differences may wind up being subtle in some cases but there are still differences in the way the aging process takes place at different temps.

Either drink it right away (too late!) or stash that puppy in the coolest part of your house (basement or interior closet) for a year+ , maybe the downstair neighbors :sunglasses:

Your bourbon country privileges have been revoked.

NOTHING will happen if you take the beer out and put it in cellar or aging location. As stated above if you choose to keep it in the fridge it will just age slower.

Bourbon barrel arrogant bastard was marginal so I wouldn't sweat it, and it appears you aren't. Also rumor is they will be releasing it in 6 packs.
