Austin people...can someone send me a message or tell me where I can get a bottle of this after I get off work at around 10PM? I don't feel like doing the whole hunt thing, just want one bottle for my eventual vertical and call it a day.

Yeah, I very rarely eat pizza. I like the pizza at @FreetailBrewing and when I'm in Brooklyn I always get a slice at Vinnie's, but otherwise I almost never touch the stuff. Honestly, I just don't think it's usually worth it.

Star Pizza has some of the best in Houston. Known for chicago style. Worth a try, IMO.

meh... Myself and my wife have had Star Pizza on 3 separate occassions since we moved to Houston 6 years... every experience has been terrible... either piss-poor service, terrible pizza, or ridiculously long wait (without any explanation)... we gave up after the 3rd try... and I really wanted to like the place - used to live across the the street...

If I'm getting pizza, it's generally candelari's... occasionally pink's... that's about it... lately I just make it at home...

    but back to beer...

Actually I agree with this, but:

This is closer to my experience. Star is a Houston institution, but that doesn't necessarily make it good. When I was a kid, I ate the hell out of it. But I've spent some time in Chicago and lived in NYC for years, so while I agree that Star has some of the best in Houston (and I do think there are better places, but tons of worse), I also know that frankly, Houston pizza is a travesty.

I'm the first person to advocate for the awesomeness of Houston's food, and I'll happily defend my city when we're right. But pizza? We are wrong.

    And thus:

Had SABB8 last night at SA Flying Saucer and they also rasied their prices. I initially recall getting the earlier BB series for $8-$10 but now it's $12.99. I didn't care but really enjoyed the hell out of it.

    Yes

I'd like to know how the Gino's in the Woodlands compares to the original in Chicago assuming you've been to both but doubtful since it just opened.

Haven't been to the Woodlands one yet but I do enjoy Gino's in Chicago. Lou Malnati's is by far my favorite place up there though.

If I ever find myself in the Woodlands and Corkscrew is closed, I'll try to make the trip out there. That's a big IF since I rarely drive that freaking far though.

I'm a big fan of Pequods. I had only been there once prior to my last trip to Chicago about a month ago. I had planned on going back one time but found out the hotel I was staying in happened to be in their delivery zone. I ate Peqouds 4 nights in a row, once for dessert about an hour after dinner at Hopleaf. D'fuckenlicious.

Not Chicago, but is very good. Barry's and Pizaro's have the best pizza in Houston, or at least some of my favorites  I don't know of any places that does "true Chicago" pizza in Houston. Though lots claim to.

I suppose it is more fair to say that Star is a favorite of many in Houston. It certainly is one of mine. And I suspect it's not "true Chicago" since their pies are larger and not as deep, but the concept is similar (deep dish, ingredients reversed).

To stay on topic, I purchased my BB8 at Barry's. :grinning:

And for the record, just had another BB 6 today. At least my third since my infamous "infected, non infected" tirade. Still have not had any issues, and is drinking amazing.

still striking out on the BB8... getting a little frustrated would be an understatement.. pretty sure i'm gonna give up... I really wanted to try this one, but oh well...

Went to D&T tonight to try and get some of the "advertised" BB8 available on twitter.... they failed to mention that (1) they were $13/bottle, (2) they were only selling 1 case, with 2 available per person, and (3) they were handing out tickets to people at the bar for the right to purchase their bottles long before 6 pm rolled around. Good luck to anyone with a schedule that didn't allow for spending 30-40+ minutes sitting at D&T waiting for 6 pm.

needless to say, a little pissed/disappointed... showed up about 10 minutes to six, waited around and was told no dice...

I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but this is what I really hate about these releases. I am sure D&T wound up with more than 1 case, and that they'll trickle out, slowly... (and yes, that's their right if that's what they choose to do)... I attempted to hit up another couple of local spots with "to-go" licenses (like i've done a couple of times this week), but either they didn't have, or weren't sharing.

I work monday-friday 7-5, and have a regular schedule that does not allow me to go out during the week randomly to happy hours to try and hunt down beer. I don't have a regular bar... I pop in as frequently as I can to D&T, cottonwood, Haymerchant, and witchcraft... but no one's going to hold on to beer for me... The places that wind up with "to-go" bottles are few, and not near where I work - and I am not drinking a BB8 on my lunch break and returning to work.

I can hit a liquor store during my lunch break or i can pop into my grocery store 3 times a week... and not have to go back to work smelling of bourbon or get a taxi home (because let's face it, if you drink a glass of this stuff in <1 hour you're not technically legal to drive unless you're over 350 lbs of raw muscle).

I don't understand why I deserve to be excluded from these releases. I buy a lot of Saint Arnold's beers when I'm about and about, and they're always in my fridge when I'm entertaining. I take every spare chance I get to visit the brewery - to the point where I have it on an itinerary stop for first time visitors to houston staying at my house. I am a staunch supporter of their brewery.... that being said, I'm also at a point where I am wondering why they feel the need to "reward" their restaurant and bar accounts with these beers? Normally when I buy a pint of Saint Arnold's out and about I am paying 3-4+ times as much for the beer than I would if I bought a 6-pack... isn't that "reward" enough to these retailers? On top of that, they get the special beers too? And yes, some of them are honest about retailing them, however, the majority of them hold the beers hostage with (1) high prices, or (2) limited releases at a time, or (3) food purchases, or etc etc.... is this necessary? Would it not be just as easy to release this stuff through regular accounts? I know we all like to think about why they do it this way... and the majority of the consensus is "small batches + big footprint", but are we going to accept the same treatment when Karbach goes national. If they told you tomorrow BBH is going to follow the same distribution philosophy, how would you feel? How big are the batches of avery's BA beers (just taking a stab in the dark for something similar)? I'm sure there are countless other breweries with big footprints and small releases that don't essentially give a carte blanche to restaurants/bars with their special releases...

The bottom line is - at the end of the day, it's still me and you, the ultimate consumer that puts the beer in our belly, that should be getting special rewards... We spend our cash on SA beers, and the bars wouldn't be carrying it in the first place if we weren't drinking it. The relationship that SA may have with any given bar/restaurant isn't strong enough for the bar to keep buying their product if we aren't bellying up to buy it.

Yea, i get it, I'm a broken record.... sorry... I needed to vent that. I know one meathead mouthing off on BA forums isn't going to change their distribution of their beer... all I am saying is that next time I walk into a bar and see SA / Karbach / Buffalo Bayou / whoever else's taphandle on the counter, I think my $ may start favoring the local establishment that doesn't rub me the wrong way about a release like this. When I'm out for a session, I have just as much enjoyment with a weekend warrior or a weisse as I do with a lawnmower or a weedwhacker....

I'm sure that this post will be met with the usual counter-arguments, and for this (and my own rant), I apologize in advance...
