I know this topic has been beaten to death but this is the first time it happened to me.

as I was paying 4 my 2 packages the FedEx person asked me if it contains beer. I said no why. She said someone in there last week was caught shipping beer and was given a $10,000 fine.they scanned the box with a tracer and opened it up to find the beer.
my initial instinct was to just run out of the store, but it was too late she was already handing me my receipt. I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed

I think they were just messing with you. If they fined people that much it would certainly limit beer trading for many people, and Fedex would lose a ton of revenue.

you really think that beer trading in any way represents a "ton of revenue" for fed ex?

They do nearly $50bln in revenue per year. Beer trading isnt a ton of revenue. illegal drug shipments probably represent more money for them than beer.

10k lol. Even if they did fine you 10k, it's not enforceable. Just don't pay it and use UPS. I call BS though.

FedEx can't fine you. They have no authority to fine you for violating their shipping policies. Only government agencies can fine you, but that requires prosecution and law enforcement resources. I'd think if they'd go after anyone, they'd go after people who sell beers for profit on those "collectibles" sites well before they do that with beer traders. Trading beers among friends for no monetary gains? Yeah, taxpayers would be really happy that they use enforcement resources for that!

Good point. I probably took the perspective from looking at my own Fedex bill in 2014. :slight_frown:

As many here are saying Fedex cannot fine you, they could try and sue you but i don't think that could possibly be worth there time. Furthermore i once shipped a box which apparently broke so they opened and they saw that it had beer so they would not ship it, they told me i could not file a damage claim since i was not an authorized shipper but they did refund my shipping fee, so ten k find? yeah i don't think so.❨btw i immediately sent the guy a replacement box and got much better at packing since then, i swear:slight_smile: )

    Two questions:
    1. Did you wear a brewery t-shirt or baseball cap?
    2. Do you have a beard?

If the answer is yes then you´re probably on the Fedex "most likely to be shipping illegal alcohol" list

Fed ex trying to sue you for $10k is like getting fined/sued for pirating music/movies. Its all for show and wont ever be enforced unless you have some massive operation going where its worth "setting a precedent"
