I recently picked up an early 1990s (regular) Rodenbach 3L, properly cellared since it was bottled. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience tasting a Rodenbach this old. Is it worth opening or is it better to keep it corked as a collectable?

I have no idea how this would taste, but would really like to know. I am of the opinion that beer is meant to be drank, so if you already bought it, drink it. You could wait longer, but then again, the beer is already 25 years old. How often do you have the change to taste such a cellarable classic at that age? Especially, if memory serves me right, considering this bottle is from the time Rodenbachs were not pasteurized. Also, you can always save the empty bottle as a collectible.

Anyhow, I hope you post the results and some pics

Also curious how that bottle turned out. I would try to get some Alexander Rodenbach (I'm assuming yours is Grand Cru?) from the same era and try a side-by-side.

It has a way better shot of being great than if it was a 750ml.....I'd absolutely drink it.

I had an aged Rodenbach a while back I think it was from the 70's or something - it was decent. Crack it open and report back!
