Which of these two do you prefer and why? I prefer the original but the current rage seems to be for the grapefruit.

Definitely regular sculpin but grapefruit is a nice change of pace and is still really good. The reason it is the rage is because most places don't have grapefruit very often. Regular is always sitting on the shelf.

I love both, but I'd rather have grapefruit sculpin.

I am going to find out as soon as my nasty cold wears off. I have my first Grapefruits sitting in the fridge. :grinning:

Regular for me. The addition of grapefruit is a good choice and interesting but I just thought it tasted too artificial, whether it is or isn't.

Definitely grapefruit sculpin but that might have something to do with it being harder to get

Regular, grapefruit sculpin has an awesome smell but lacks the bite of regular sculpin.

I had the same experience, it just felt too fruit extract which made it seem very artificial. Interesting but I would never buy the beer again. Regular is way better.

Same, aroma interesting, flavor a bit weird, and it just lacked that awesome bitter punch in the end.

GF Sculpin is an interesting change of pace, but I'll take regular Sculpin all day. It was fun doing a side by side of the 2 both less than 1 month old.

Grapefruit Sculpin is everything that's wrong about craft beer today.

I would probably get tired of it after a while but right now would take a GF Sculpin over regular. The difference for me being there are a lot of IPA's that are similar to Sculpin but i have never had anything that tasted like GF Sculpin before.

I prefer the original over the grapefruit especially when it's fresh.

Inquiring minds want to know. WHY? Just another Sculpin hater? Surprised it took 10 posts to get one.

Not to threadjack here, but I was questioning this yesterday.

(Full disclosure: I have several GF Sculpin at home I'll be trying out this weekend but in general I do not buy flavored IPAs.)
My question, though, is this: Why do flavored IPAs, stouts and the like tend be widely accepted - and often wildly celebrated - while it is a big fucking faux pas to stick a piece of fruit in your beer?

I mean, its all about personal preference and I'm not knocking on folks that like it one way or the other. Personally, I don't add fruit to my beer nor do I drink many "with fruit added" beers - just not my thing.

I had one a few days ago and thought it tasted artificial. I tried my first one last summer and I thought it was fantastic because the grapefruit flavor tasted fresher, so I wondered if they started using artificial extract in lieu of real grapefruit when they started mass producing it.
