Buddy convinced me to go halves on a bottle of Murda'd and several other BA FFF stouts in a local deal and he came back with the bottle below.

I'm 100% convinced this is a very poor rewax but the guy swears he bought it in the end of '13 at FFF cellar cleaning sale and swears it's never been opened. The other bottles were perfect and seemed to back up the story.

To me it looks like the cap had a bottle opener to it but the wax under the rim of the cap appears to be untouched.

    Thoughts?

That looks ok to me. The waxing on the couple bottles of Murda'd I had were just as poor.

Agreed. I have opened one myself and had a buddy open one of his and they both looked like that. I don't think you should sweat it.

You must not be familiar with FFF quality control. This is like an A- job for them, be thankful the cap is even on!

    (I know I know....I couldn't help myself.)

The real question is, is the label straight or crooked and falling off? If its the latter, you've got the genuine FFF article

Thanks to all for your thoughts on this. We picked it up for a bottle share this weekend, so I'll report back on Sunday.

Looks like it just ran a little thin on top.

I've seen a couple of lousy 2012 wax jobs. I had a DL I was actually very suspicious of pre-Herb but one taste hit me with that a rush of the 2012 FFF 'trademark' green apple & I knew it was (regrettably) genuine.

I've been told the ba variants don't have the green apple flavor but I've had 2 bottles of 2012 regular DL in the last year & it's still there. Bleh.

Pretty much all the 2012 (Red) FFF waxed beers I have seen look exactly like that. You can see the edges of the cap on all of them.

    ***UPDATE***

Cracked in on Saturday and all is well. It was the hit of the bottle share.

Thanks everyone for talking me off the ledge.
