I'm staying with my parents for the weekend, and my dad had picked up this bottle of Bigfoot at a Florida liquor store god knows how long ago. It's clearly an old, old label, but the oddest thing is the bottle cap; I've never seen a Bigfoot bottle cap like this.

(It says Florida, in case the picture is not clear. Around the edge, it says "Twist Off.")

I would assume that this was a re-capped bottle...except that it was bought in a store, and the cap looks as old as the bottle itself. Does anyone know if SN ever issued Bigfoot with state-specific caps at any point in time?

Looks kind of sketchy to me. I don't know of any sierra nevada beer with a twist off cap.

They switched to pry off on 2008. Twist off before.

Didn't know that, I think the oldest Sierra beer I have had was a 2009 Bigfoot.

Sort of reminds my of the twenty-year-old SN Pale Ale that I found in my father's garage.

With different states having different ABV regulations, I could see why a brewery would do state-specific capping, but I've never heard of SN doing this.
I'm sure @sierranevadabill would be more familiar.

Kinda cool. You said your dad bought it and has had it for ages? It might be pretty good still if it has been away from heat and light. I know the twist offs were a bugger for oxidization though...

The cap is odd though - I have no clues on that at all...

The cap wasn't a Sierra Nevada thing- it was a Florida requirement. Here are some others-

As to the whens and rationalizations of these things, I couldn't tell you. Hopefully @jesskidden can fill us in on that stuff; all that I do remember is seeing the caps in the 80s.

I think just drinking it should do the trick, actually.

You got me- that would be a good clue, though. I just found it to be a curiosity when visiting at the time, but don't have anything more specific than that.

It looks like Sierra Nevada just bought cheap generic crowns to sell Bigfoot in FL at the time, so maybe whenever they first started to hit the east coast would be my guess as to the bottle's vintage. Late 80s, maybe.
