Sorry this had to come to it, but I thought some might be interested to know about this going forward.

Friday afternoon my friend @clewis901 threw out an offer for Ann, offering 2 Prop & 2 Vanilla. I am involved as I was contributing to the Prop&Vanilla end of the trade.

BA member @jlandry462 reached out and came to an agreement for his bottle of Ann.

As of this morning, he backed out, citing:

Now I'd be ok with just having to go back to the boards, but then we noticed this:

And it wasn't until @clewis901 called him out in the thread, that it got deleted.

Just want to give others the heads up to proceed with caution. Unless of course the CCK trade was found in New Hampshire.

Yeah yeah, my bad for not making this trade when I realized I could land the #1 beer on my want list, but if we're going to post this type of stuff, please use facts. I never locked in a trade with your friend, I just told him I was interested. This is the first time I've had a beer like this is my hands, so when I learned that I had won the lottery, I jumped on the first thing I saw. Lesson learned, sorry for being disrespectful.

Sorry to hear OP. He should have just been honest and you would have not made this thread. We're all grown ups and should act like it. We can handle the truth!

So are you doing the trade IP or was that a lie and easy way out once you realized you could maximize your trade?

Well when you put it that way, it would be the latter of the two.

I'm really not a fan of letting people down, so I didn't want to straight up tell them that I had come across a better offer. In hindsight I shouldn't have lied, but I never had a trade in place. I only had noted I was interested in what was on the table, meaning I was going to look into it further prior to locking in a trade and exchanging shipping info.

For me, the lying aspect of saying you'd only do it IP and then arranging another shipping trade is reason enough for me to never want to trade with you. I realize that's probably no skin off your teeth, but just saying.

To play the Devil's advocate though (and I really have no dog in this fight), until a trade request has been sent and approved, it's not technically backing out, it's just a dick move.

Also, it looks like we have the start and the end of the convo, but not the middle (if there is anything in between) so maybe that would be enlightening?

Seems to be early in @jlandry462's trading life. Hopefully this is a lesson learned situation. There's always other beers, but you rarely get second chances on reputations and relationships.

A good portion of this community runs in tight knit circles and those tight knit circles often overlap. I've actually never traded with @DooshBagalow, but I know of his generosity from my observations and from a few boxes he's shipped me b/c apparently he's my good luck charm in competition BIFs. I'd hate to end up on his NTL.

Edit: Also, in response to @jlandry462's post of the conversation, I think it's clear you were called out not because you "backed out of a deal" but because you lied about it and clearly found a better offer. Slippery slope, but if were you, I'd offer the mea culpa and lay low on this one.

Well I'd definitely agree that you didn't back out of the trade, because an agreement was never reached, but you'd be much better off had you not lied about your intentions to not go through with it. For that reason alone most of the folks on here aren't going to be trading with you, it's dishonest and completely against the spirit of BA. Just as a bit of advice, take it or leave it, don't respond to an offer unless you are committed to seeing it through.

Now we are outing people for starting a conversation and not completing trades? Thats nice.

I think we all realize that this stuff goes on a LOT these days. There are a lot of factors in play to be honest and even the best of us can get swept up in an inbox explosion where you see something offered or available that you never thought possible. I try to pride myself in being a good guy and always try to remember that it is just beer but at times you can get caught up.

I have agreed many trades just to see the other side vanish. When Black Tuesday was the tits I had someone tell me they didn't get to the release only to see them post in threads how great the event was. I've bought bottles for people to see them bail when it comes time for me to ship. It happens more and more and I don't worry about it much anymore.

This might be somewhat out of line but I blame the breweries a bit too. They all love this hype and interest. For something like Ann 2, one alternative would have been to make it on site consumption only when you have so little. Remember the old reward the locals discussuons? I would actually give them or others props for doing this.

I think the main reason is lying, at least for me it is.

While I have never backed out of a trade even one that I got screwed on I see no where that he did anything wrong. Lying and excuses often dark waters. This op is sad he didnt get his low ball trade done and the op is trying to maximize profit. Seems pretty standard these days.

Op never agreed to make the trade, just asked if the trade was still up. Op takes that as he locked down a trade? Seems like both parties are at fault here and at the very least doesn't merit a call out in public. Maybe the Op should of put the trader on his DNT list. But I see no reason for a public call out here.

Wow i'm kinda more surprised at clewis behavior. Messaging every 10 minutes and using the "I have other trades lined up" tactic to try to get landry to trade with him. Which if he did then there would be no reason for this thread as he could have just traded it to one of the other interested parties. kinda abrasive. So it seems like it was just a shady tactic to get landry to trade quickly.

Landry actually never agreed to the trade either. Just said he was interested. If everyone reported someone who said they were interested but never followed through this whole forum would be covered with these threads.

I do not condone him lying though. That part was low.
