Complex? Definitely. There is a lot going on in the beer

Best beer of the year? I'm not sure, I don't think so though for me

Am I crazy, I'm not crazy. I'm not crazy? I'm not crazy

Why are you so hung up on other people's ratings? Who gives a schitt what the BA score is? Like what you like and appreciate. It's not like you brewed it... ;-)

93 is pretty solid for the record...

Reminds me of the thread started that Ruination Tenth Anniversary is the "perfect beer." In what fantasy world is a 11.8% boozy beer a "perfect beer?" I must be getting old and crotchety...

You must be getting old if you describe yourself as crotchety ahahaha

If you found the Ruination Tenth boozy you might as well pluck off those two pubic hairs you grew last year and put them in your wallet so you can pull them out when anyone questions your manhood.

Not a bad beer by any means...but boozy, overly malty & sweet...Drake's Black Label better, Rodger's Last Stand better, PtY better, Terrapin Hopzilla side project 12 better...

    To each their own...

I tried one of my 3 bottles last night, as the bottle and what the beer itself would suggest, it isn't ready yet. That being said, I enjoyed it a lot and it seemed like every couple sips I found a new layer. I can't wait to try it next year.

I enjoyed the first one I had(at release). Last week I had another and freakin loved it.
I couldn't care less what it is rated. Lower score means more available for me to buy.

How does Collage #1 compare to fresh Veritas 009 for anybody whos had both?
from the description it sounds like they may be somewhere in the same ballpark. Vertias 009 has definitely taken a turn for the worse since it's release however.

Why do you ask this? I'm wondering because I don't know the relationship between these two beers and why one would intend to compare them.

I wasn't a fan of it at all personally, way too much of vinegar taste imo.

The reason it's only a 93 is that the bottle count was too high. If they had kept it to 5,000 bottles or less, sold tickets to a brewery-only release event, and limited it to 3 bottles per person, it would have instantly shot up the top 100 list.

Doubt it. I for one initially got the impression that it will make appearances only at dinners and the brewpubs. Can't wait to drink it though because it sounded like a horrible concoction, and I expressed my doubts. Nothing beats a prejudiced palate!

I thought it was muy bueno... Low to mid 90s IMO.

Best beer of the year? I don't think so. I enjoyed Avery's Uncle Jacob Stout so much more.

How many bottles of this were released? Basically how hard should this be to get?

I've seen it on shelves all over in the Bay Area, the high price tag is probably scaring people off. I think if you're in Deschutes distro range you should see it, but that might be wrong. Worst case it shouldn't be hard to grab with locals.

Its a damn fine beer. I was one of the 1st to review it. Thought it did need more time to meld flavors.
    Very young still.

    Cheers!

This is what I read after trying it as well, and I agree with the best after date. I did not think it was ready yet, at least not for my tastes. It had a nice nose and a great front end, but it really died on the back end for me and was kind of blah. I have no problem with it being at a 93 and if I rated I may have rated it lower at the moment. Lots of potential there though and will have to try and grab a bottle (one I sampled was from brother-in-law from OR when he visited) for next year. I could definitely think of some other beers this year that I have found to be much better, but to each their own.

I'm with the OP. I thought this was absolutely delicious fresh, and I think it will only improve with age. Anyone who says it's a mess hasn't tasted a messy beer.
