Agreed on both... Chris is nice as hell, the very few times I've met him, but like I said it's less of a $ thing. I guess. Thanks for the reply!

EDIT: also, it being on sale and so close to the brst-by date, should it have been buyer beware on my part?

For most of these questions, I probably would've reached out to Grapevine before posting to BA. Not really a huge deal, but it's a pretty small community and I think a lot of this stuff can get blown out of proportion and hurt relationships.

As a regular at Grapevine I can say they are completely transparent with dates. I have seen signs telling me how fresh certain IPAs were (double jack comes to mind) as well as how not fresh (maharaja a few batches ago that came late from the distributor). Personally, I wouldn't expect much from a 2 week from best by black ipa seasonal on sale. I dont think the manufacturer or retailer is to blame here.

I mean, it is a "Best By" date, not a "This beer will be undrinkable within 2 weeks of this" date. I've bought my share of these types of beers and didn't have high expectations, but I also wouldn't expect the beer to be undrinkable. When they had 12 packs of Red Chair for like $10 though...I couldn't get enough, that deal was awesome, I thought the beer held up well too.

Of course I did. Chris and the crew, as always, are amazing and offered to take care of me if I brought the remaining back. I certainly wasn't shit-talking them, if that's what you're kinda hinting at, in fact I'm highlighting how great their customer service is.

Yep, I've come to realize over the last 24 hours that I shouldn't have expected too much... but that being said, as ASak10 said, this beer sucks and is still in the BEST by window, not the Undrinkable by window. I CERTAINLY don't think Grapevine is to blame, not even close, but Odell is very much responsible for a beer that's still in their drink-by that sucks.

That deal was DOPE. I am very pissed I didn't buy some.

I had the same issue with a bottle of Hiverrano (which they eventually recalled) in 2011. I shot them an email and received a quick response, as well as a nice box from them. Odell is awesome.

Odell is so awesome, in fact, that remember the crummy Mountain Standard 4 pack that I bitched about a few weeks back? This morning there's a package on my front desk containing the following items: a medium size Lugene tshirt, two stickers (one Odell logo and one IPA) and a check for $12.88! What a bunch of badasses!! I don't think I'll ever cash the check though, as I would feel like I was ripping them off - the beer was no good, but it wasn't GARBAGE or undrinkable.

And for what it's worth, in case anyone cares - I bought it at Grapevine and Chris was MORE than happy to give me a refund or exchange the beer for something else, cause he is also a badass. I didn't take him up on it cause it's not his fault, but just let the record show both Odell and Grapevine are fucking awesome!

Odell and Grapevine ARE awesomesauce. Glad to see they both took care of you. And this is a part of why Colorado's beer community remains among the best in the country.

I would say the best, but honestly, it's a minor quibble.

I tried to Email the "beer" guy on the website. I guess it's the wrong Email address because it said something like invalid Email address or something like that. More really awesome customer service from that God forsaken shit hole.
