    Cali Huna
    Backyard
I feel this is way too much but could just be me. Any help Is appreciated.

That's what it would take for some of these guys to give it up. While I don't think it's fair, it's probably what it would take.

I guess I look at it like the market in chicago is crazy. I joined ba to get away from all the gouging in price. And to trade rather than deal with all these d bags on craigslist. But if I can sell a rare for $200 and a prop for $125 and can buy a pappy dl for $350 why not do that? Then I'm basically trading 2 for 1. I just don't want to get that crazy into the resale end of it. Just thinking out loud.

In many cases, you are better off going that route. For example, you could sell Fou Foune, St. Lam and some other Cantillon for over $300, but if you offered all three in trade for Pappy DL you wouldnt get a sniff.

I was looking for a Bourbon Dark Lord last year and saw them selling for $300 each. I was able to trade away $150 worth of beer instead. However, at the time I was debating selling three Bruery Beers instead and using that money to buy the same beer.

In your case you should sell.

A pappy dl goes for 500+. You also run into the trading up problem, some people don't like trading their ferrari for a bunch of honda's unless its a good deal for them.

Sadly both Bourbon Dark Lord and PVW Dark lord at this point are a mess IMO. We opened a Bourbon dark lord over a year ago and it was oxidized and didnt even get finished among 8 people.

I wouldn't agree that Pappy DL is a mess. We opened one in December and enjoyed it, but it does taste like, well, Dark Lord. But I will say that this was part of a pappy-aged share, and DL was not in the top-5, so there are definitely better Pappy whales to slay. I certainly wouldn't give up the entire list OP was offered to get it.

You want the best PVW Aged Stout get some PVW Black Magick. It destroys any non Adjunct PVW Beer. Just My opinion of course.

There was a time when conversations about black market pricing was heavily frowned upon. Sad that craft beer has come to this. Sigh.

I would agree with sentiment that the PVW DL is not all that good at this point. I had it last fall and was an oxidized meh compared to what it once was. However the brandy vanilla DL was very good at the same tasting and if you could find one of those that would be a much better deal for the beers you listed.

I would only do this as an ego builder to say that I have one on my shelf. I certainly wouldn't do it for consumption pleasure. Very few PVW aged beers have lived up to the hype and this is not one of them once it passed its first few months of existence, (IMO).

If you're gonna give up a ton for vintage DL, do yourself a favor and only seek out Brandy Vanilla. Even with this much age on it, it is far and away the best BADL (though there are those that prefer bourbon vanilla they crazy). Had a pour of Pappy last year and it was pretty much mediocre at best now. Brandy Vanilla still tastes like liquid marshmallow. Its unreal.

Call me crazy, but I'm one of the few to go after the 2011 DL set and get them all. Here's what it took in trades completed in mid to late 2014:

    Brandy Vanilla:
Seasons set, Herfst, OGV '08 75 + 37.5, Brauart/h.ertie Lambik Peated, Hommage, LPG, Golden blend

    PVW:
Fou, LPG, LPK, LPF, Grand Cru Bruocsella, Cuvee Saint-Gilloise, St Lamvinus, Iris, Vigneronne, Golden Doesjel, Doesjel, 50n4e B2

    De Muerte:
    A&T, Fou x 2, LPG, LPF

    Brandy:
Hommage B2, Fou, LPG, St Lam, Golden Doesjel

Hope this helps any trying to do the same, and no doubt gives some entertainment to the rest :-)

No doubt the after market buying / selling in this case would have been cheaper but personally I don't want to be involved in that. For trade, what OP posted seems reasonable compared..

Ridiculous to give up all that great beer for any single beer, I wouldn't even think it.
