All I can say is -- the "categorization" is rather imperfect (we all know this to some extent). I tried Simtra and PTY in the past year -- and wow -- they're so different from one another in terms of taste! If I were an outsider -- I'd have no idea why they're both categorized as a "triple IPA"

I tried it in bomber format...that went about as well as you might expect. Apparently it comes in 12oz bottles as well...now I know!

I wasn't as impressed with Green Bullet as I wanted to be. I REALLY enjoy their West Coast IPA so I had high hopes.

Molotov...wow. I prefer sticking to the M. Light.

Been a while, but I love both Hopsickle, and Mongo. Had both on tap in Pa when visiting my dad a few years ago, you need a DD to do this. Side by side Mongo was a bit better, to me anyway. We used to get Hopsickle here in bombers, but haven't seen it in a long time.

I tried Knee Deep Simtra. It had a big garlic/onion aroma mixed with hot garbage. The alcohol was not smooth.

Turrible beer. Just turrible. Drainpoured half a bomber.

I agree, with only 10.5% ABV it is a little difficult to call this a Triple IPA but I guess you have to for your portfolio if Resin is sitting around 9%

Agree. I think Hi Res is great. Devil Dancer? Sweet, hot mess. So they can be done well IMO.

Hi-Res is the only "triple IPA" I've ever had that was good even in the least bit. Devil Dancer, Green Bullet, Molotov Cocktail, Simtra, and a few others I've had are all overly sweet messes. Stuff is gross.

I couldn't agree more. So many styles I don't accept that are just made up to make the brewer seem special. What happened to tradition and standards in brewing? It's like anyone can just invent whatever they want and call it beer. I'll take an Old Ale or a Bière de Garde any day, as long as they're true to the tradition of the style.

From this consumer's perspective, the marketing is indeed effective. I go all "Catcher in the Rye" from Conspiracy Theory every time I see a "triple" IPA.

i say just call everything over 8% an "imperial" and just leave it alone. IMO.

I've had it fresh from Ca and it was amazing. We get distro here and I wouldn't take it for half te price, I'm sure it's old and nasty.

The funny thing is that these days, everything that comes out seems to be at least a IIPA. Sometimes I want a nice 5-6% hoppy beer like they used to simply call an IPA. I see them being marketed as simply pale ales these days.

The Knee Deep bottles are dated. The first couple waves that hit NC were really fresh and I still didn't like it. Most of the ones I've seen around lately have been old though because they're not selling anymore.

Typically when I see something labeled as a triple IPA I don't usually like it very much. Usually way too much sweetness for me.

Oooh! I just thought of one that I actually love, Duvel Tripel Hop. Although I think technically it is classified as a Belgian pale, but it's like 9.5% and is awesome.

I tend to like more malt forward beers, so I enjoy many of the so called triple IPAs (IIIPA). I also like higher ABV. I just like 'bigger' beers, I guess. The following are the ones I've had and come to mind...

    Devil Dancer
    Green Bullet
    Hi-Res
    Molotov Cocktail
    120 Minute
