I'm coming to Portland in the fall. I won a Bed and Breakfast card from work and have the following choices: Heron Haus/northwest district; Lion and the Rose bnb, The Painted Lady BNB; and Bellaterra BNB; I want to work my "free" stay around an area that is safe, but near good breweries. Would like to hit up Cascade Brewery (thanks for the recent winter update to breweries to hit in Portland - that was a big help). I really need some help here. I don't know anything about the Portland area - what areas to go to, or which ones to avoid, so any help would be appreciated. Your help will get you a beer if we can meet up. Thanks for anyone that replies.
I would go with either of these: Lion and the Rose bnb, The Painted Lady BNB both of those are near each other and on the side of the river where most the beer bars/bottle shops and breweries are. 1.6 mile walk/drive public transportation to Cascade.
Being from originally near Philly, the closest area to Portland that I would call unsafe is in Oakland, CA!
@OregonHopmonster is right, don't worry about safety in Portland. Pick the spot that's closest to the most breweries you want to visit and leave it at that. I live in one of the sketchier neighborhoods, and still walk around in the middle of the night without any worries.
My uncle is taking me on a trip to portland next month for 3 days. I was going to post a thread asking for the best bottle shops/breweries ect, but then saw this. So i wont post another. Only place i for sure am going is Hair of the Dog. Ive never had any of their beers so im looking forward to it. Also swing by deschutes brewpub in portland!
Or the fact that there is an entire thread entitled visiting portland http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/visiting-portland-winter-2015-update.243817/
