Ever have a beer that usually served in a pint glass (like a helles lager or a pale ale) in a snifter or tulip instead? Did you feel that it enhanced the beer or took away from it?

The point of different glass shapes is to control the concentration of airflow into the nose and mouth. That results in taste. So yes, you can absolutely experiment with drinking right from the can or in different glassware to alter the taste. You can also experiment with different tasting temperatures from very cold (which brings out the alcohol) to room temp (which brings out the malt). Most beers though have both a "right" glass and a "right" temp to taste at to properly enjoy them so remember while experimentation is good-- it might return negative results.

I'm biased in at I absolutely hate Shaker pints as a drinking glass, why? Don't know but I do, but I like to collect them. I prefer Snifters , wine style glass, Pils glass etc. Wine and a Pils and I'm good.

I drink most of mine out of a tulip glass, though I do have a pilsner glass I'll use occasionally, and a Detroit Tigers pint I use during game times for superstitious reasons. But the tulip is really my favorite to use, no matter the style.

A helles in a snifter? Hell yeah, there's a problem- there's not enough of it! Half-liters, please.

I often do my pale ales in a snifter. I like it better than the standard pint

I have about 50 standard pint glasses and don't use a single one. I will use a snifter, goblet, tulip, etc. The closet thing to a pint glass I use is the Sam Adams glass, which I do like. However, my favorite glass to use is the Duvel glass.

I use a snifter for most beers 8% and above, everything else mostly goes in a pint. I have a couple specialty glasses like a 10oz dupont glass I use for saisons/sours because it's very narrow and concentrates the effervescence.

Only showers enhance the flavor of my beer.

I personally don't think a glass enhances a beer but it enhances the experience. When I am drinking a beer out of a shaker pint I tend to drink it much faster, swirl less and take less sniffs of the beer. When I am drinking something out of a tulip or similar style I tend to slow my approach down, swirl more constantly take more sniffs of the beer.

When the drinking experience is enhanced it enhances beer...wait did I just contradict myself?

This kind of mistake would only happen at a bar. A bar tulip/snifter would be less oz than a pint so it would definitely take away from the experience.

Anyone know of a tulip glass with the thickness of a pint glass?

Thickness of a shaker pint (cos nonic tend to be thinner)? I don't know if it's quite that thick, but my HOTD tulip is pretty beefy.

No, I agree with you. It's more than just a taste thing - it's a drinking experience - and that starts with what you see.

I've tried some unorthodox beer/glass combinations, and it's probably more psychological than anything for me, but anything pale in a snifter is kinda off-putting; likewise for anything black in a tulip.

On a somewhat related note, for example, I didn't enjoy Stone's Master of Disguise (a pale stout) because it created a contradiction that I couldn't get past.

I don't have snifters, but I have what were labeled "porter/stout glasses". They are a similar shape as snifters, but not as wide. I drink stouts/porters/wee heavys and other heavy beers in those glasses. I prefer my lighter fare in frozen mugs, which I know is frowned upon, but I like what I like.

Something about the snifter and the tulip that compels me to sip the beer in them. They definitely have their place but, if I am in the mood for something low-ABV/highly-quaffable, I will use a pint, pilsner, or Sam Adams glass.

I have shakers that I collect and use seasonally, tulips and nonics that I use mostly and snifters for when I wear a silk smoking jacket and feeling snooty
Right now I'm drinking FBS out of a coffee mug.
It does enhance the experience because the experience is drinking beer, ever have BCBS out of a red solo cup?

I prefer big malty beers in a snifter and then rest in something else. I recently acquired some "real" IPA glasses. Although I feel pretty hip drinking a Hopslam out of one, I'm not sure they "work" better than a pint glass.

I got tulip shaped glasses from Macy's. I just stumbled upon them. They were $14 for 4, made by cellar, and had that nice thickness and tulip shape. Looks like this...
