Just purchased a sixer. No date on the bottles. Is this common with Lagunitas beers? I also notice a lot of floaties in each bottle. So, I'm thinking it may be an old beer. I checked the box but there's no date on that either. Base on the feedback I get, I might have to return it??

Highly doubtful it's old, but. Anything is possible.
They datecode their bottles on the neck. And yes. It's hard to read and wipes off rather easily. Can't comment on the floaties cos I haven't had an IPA of theirs in ages in favor of their other releases which sometimes have them.

Lagunitas uses Julian date on neck of the bottle. But wthout that the beer could be any age. Drink it, but next time take a pass if there is no date.

Definitely shouldn't be any floaties. Old stuff.

Just popped open a bottle. The Julian date is faint, but the first 4 numbers are 4110. Definitely malt forward with traces of hops. I don't get that typical west coast IPA profile with fruit aspect. If I were to grade it, I'd probably give it a B. I'd love to try a fresher version of this beer.

Look very closely! They use black stamps so it can be hard to see.

Top line should look like that. First 3 numbers are the Julian code (# of day of the year) then a 4 for 2014, or 5 for 2015. Then a 1 if it's from Cali, 2 if it's from Chicago.

If there is no code on the neck then that is insanely old. They have dated their bottles with the Julian coding of DDD Y since spring 2013. Before that, they had a julian code and batch number with no year since at least early 2012/late 2011.

Old pic of mine, but their bottle dating is easy as hell to see, and I have never had any smudging or wiping off ever. Even with condensation on the bottle.

The code I got was on the bottom of the bottle. But each bottle has a different code. LOL.

I'm the weirdo that never checks dates, but every Lagunitas beer I've had tasted fantastic and fresh. Of course I'll not be trying any more due to their douchbagery, but whatever, right?

Exactly, except for the fact that this was the final beer I was wiling to try from them. Never liked their beers, and this experience cements my diss on their brewsky's.

Get rid of the Julain date and put the regular bottling date to make it easier for people to buy and enjoy your beer.

Any date is better than no date and personally I think the Maximus is superior to the regular in every way possible.

I just bought a sixer tonight... why in the hell can't they make the bottle date easier to read? In the crappy dark light of my local store, I couldn't see it. Got home and pleasantly surprised it was bottled in late December.

Change the color of date stamp... white or yellow comes to mind. Black on a dark bottle????

Hey dude I actually work at Lagunitas and we would be happy to get you squared away with the proper answers to your floaty beer and lack of date questions. Best way to get to the bottom of this is to shoot an email to [email protected] and a real live human being will reply with some steps to hopefully ensure your future consumption experiences are as pleasurable to the pallet as possible. Thankyouverymuch! Chairs.

Thanks for your response. It's not your fault, nor the fault of Lagunitas'. The distributor here sells very old beer. We have since finished the sixer, and as I stated, it was a solid B. I would like to try it fresh in the future. Thanks again...
