Beer It Forward- everyone in the group was assigned a target to send a box of local beers that they would otherwise probably not get a chance to try. This was the first, but hopefully not the last!

Beer It Forward, which I assumed (luckily correctly) a round-robin beer trade. One member (or two) know who's sending to who, but all others are in the dark until their sender reveals him/herself.

Edit: Dammit!! I am slowest! (almost, @Shroud0fdoom )

Beer It Forward program. It was where a group of us that shared beer that isn't nationally distributed.

I'm trying a 5 Rabbit Gringolandia Super Pils. It's a 7.2% pils, not bad for what it is. Cheers!

Gonna have to say mosaic is my favorite hop variety. I absolutely love it. Every time i hear that it is in a beer, I will buy it instantly. Love the pineapple, mango, and tropical fruit aspect of it. I also get some blueberries to it sometimes too, which is pretty cool.

I think Grapefruit juice is what you're missing. Nice Bottle Opener too!

New "You are the Emptiness" Sunday

    Greetings NBSer's,
And welcome to the first NBS BIF. The BA who sent me loads of goodness was @larryi86 and I thank him greatly for the massive set of goodies. Today's (maybe first entry) is in the title of my post and from Tired Hands. It made me think of this joke from a very popular album of the early 70's (the first minute has the jokes followed by a wonderful Neil Young song).

Anyway, the name of this beer belies the joy it brings.
And I hope my review attests to that.

I also need to note the wonderful teku glass, also part of NBS BIF#1. Prior to the reformat of BA a few years ago I had a profile statement that reflected my personal joy of reviewing beers that focused on the joy of the anticipation and the pleasure of trying new beers. This inscription, "this is the best beer that I have ever tasted" reflects that nicely and joyfully. This glass has moved to the front of the line for delicate and Belgian ales.
I also need to note that earlier this week I drank a most wonderful IPA, also from Tired Hands.
This was one heckova West Coast IPA and I hope my review reflects that.

All this goodness has made me quite happy, so here is the happiest song I know.

Best to all. I may be back later, or not.

Yup, definitely grapefruit juice. Slightly sweet, slightly tart. And the bottle opener was part of the box. Quickly became my favorite way of opening a beer.

Nugget Nectar is one of my favorite beers. Even @SomethingClever knows this! I love Amber/Red ales all day long though.

However, it is of course time to return to focus to find out what is new for our hero today. Lot's of new goodies that I went and stocked the fridge with, some old classics, and some new stuff coming next week that I can ... NOT wait for.... (oh yes you will be mine..)

They are of course in DC predicting uh... what's that called when we get minor inclement weather again?? you know something like an inch of snow... a little bit of rain??? what's that they call??

    oh yeah Doomsday...

So with that being said, plenty of new beer in the fridge to review, firewood is in before the rain/snow/Armageddon hits... and we are off to the races!

What's new for our hero today! Glad to see lots of people having this beer yesterday, and so now it is to partake... and slay this beast!

    -------------------------------

Poured from the bottle into a Libbey style pilsner glass.

A nice brass orange color, nearly bronze with a real great clarity. Very unique body color nearly getting into amber but staying close to pilsner dark looking roots. Minimal rising carbonation, and a thick bleach white soapy but big staying power three finger head. Looks like bubblebath in a glass on top there that just wont quit. Great and unique looking pils.

Excellent aroma. Hints of juiced citrus, a little bit of bitter zest but some real nice sweet citrus oils coming off of this. There's even a hint of black pepper and interesting bitter/hot angle going on. Definitely different angle going on here but quite fascinating on the nose so far and real memorable. Digging this.

Real excellent palate. Bright with a big classic west coast IPA juiced density and flavor. Dense hits of bread and a big fruit flavor comes off. Really gets into sweet peach territory with a peppery finish. Real fascinating mouthfeel as it forgoes malt dough and density but goes for thick IPA classic like body of juice and West coast aromas. A bit of hint of lager sticky yeast is just evident and then washed away in a big tangerine peach and orange rush. The finish is superb, with a mint and floral combination that exudes the perfect amount of balanced sweetness.

Not your average pils, and it sure doesn't look and taste like they were trying to be. Either way it is one excellent beer.

    -----------------------------------

Wow... they did a great job on this one big KUDOS to Sierra Nevada!

Cheers all more to come

Clown Shoes, Not a BIF New Beer Sunday

Still stuck working at this hour, so I haven't got into my beers (the ones that have survived) from @Homebrew yet. In the meantime I thought I would share one from late last night (technically was still drinkin on Sunday) that my brothers and I got into. Forgot to take a pic of the glass, but it looked a lot like a clear amber ale.

An almost orange- brown, clear pour results in very little head.

The nose is sweet, with some dark fruits and yeast. Faint alcohol.

Taste is more of the same. Belgian yeast, candied sugar, caramel, fruits. No bourbon there for me.

Typical carbonaion for a quad. Pretty thin and watery though.

I have been very impressed with Clown Shoes Barrel aged beers, so I didn't hesitate to grab this. I would never have known this one a bourbon barrel beer if it didn't say so on the bottle though. Certainly drinkable, but I was pretty disappointed with it.

Greetings NBS from snowy (and ready to get even more snowy) Rhode Island. It's been quite a while (too long) since I posted on here but I figured today was a great day as I was just sitting around enjoying a brew. I tried Mayflower's new DIPA Alden Friday evening on tap and was quite impressed. Very fruity and just a great beer worth trying. I gave the bottle a try today and a proper review:

This is a beer absolutely worth seeking out if you're able to get it. Cheers all!

Hi All, this is my first post to NBS.
Everyone is preparing for the nor'easter coming tomorrow night through Tuesday. My prep includes bringing in a few loads of wood for the stove as that's how I heat my house and filling up the gas tanks for the snowblower. This will be a lot of work it seems if the storm arrives as predicted. My driveway is long so it takes quite awhile when there is a good amount of snow. I don't mind and I look forward to that brew when the work is done. I also don't mind the snow. Its an inconvenience but I like the fact we get all facets of the weather hear in NE. Don't think I could live without the hot summers beautiful autumns and snowy winters. Anyway here it goes:
My beer today is Citra Ass Down, Against the Grain Brewery.
    DIPA 8% ABV.
A- nice apricot/ orange and gold hue. Thin head quickly dissapates to a thin ring.
Almost zero lacing in the glass.
S- grapefruit, citrus rind and dankness with a hint of cat pee, in a good way. Smell is very inviting.
T- citrus; lemon orange and grapefruit. A little sweet malt creeps in. Lightly oily but not so much so. Really depth of flavor dissapoints and a bitterness come in and not in a good way overpowers any minimal fruitiness of the hops . I can take some bitterness but this was a bit too much.
M- a bit thin, watery. Highly carbonated. Just the slightest oily slickness. Goes down easy.
O- the beer changed slightly for the better as it warmed. Beer as surely crushable as stated on the label.
Gimmicky name and graphics don't back up the contents of the beer. Not bad just not worthy of the 15 bucks for the bomber. Happy Sunday and thanks for the opportunity. Peace[IMG]

Great day out here in south coast Massachusetts. My car recently crapped out on me, and bought myself a 1999 Toyota corolla to bring me back and forth to school. Never mind that we're really all here for the beer and the experience it brings u s. I went to the nearest liquor store an asked if they had Samuel Adams Rebel Rouser. Yes they did, with a big smile on my face. I took this beer home cracked open a bottle and indulged in its beauty. I've enjoyed many great ipa's over the years. This is by far in my top 10, it's hard to believe but oh my goodness. Imagine bighting into a pineapple tangerine pine hybrid with a great mouth consistency exploding into your mouth. I understand there are some people that don't exactly enjoy Samuel Adams products, and I can respect that. But if you don't enjoy Samuel Adams grab this beer, you will not regret it. The beer will do the talking.

Cheers to all the beer pirates looking for there next bottle of gold

So for my second beer today I chose one that has been hanging out in the fridge for a good, long while - Schmohz Bonecrusher Stout

Truth be told, this one smells a ton better than it tastes. nice coffee, chocolate on teh nose but tasted a touch oddly tart and mega-thin.

Decided to turn the NHL All-Star game on despite my prior declaration of disdain. Just background art to some more music. Gradually getting harder, but taking a weird northwestern route to get to the harder stuff....
