Lawson's Finest Liquids "Sip of Sunshine" in 16 oz. cans hit the stores in CT today. Too expensive for a routine buy, but the demand will prevent that from happening anyway. An excellent substitute for the highly demanded Heady Topper, and even higher demanded Hill Farmstead offerings without the day long drive. Enjoying the tropical hop profile while bracing for the Blizzard of 2015. Stay safe if you are in its path.

I should respond to my own thread since my post didn't answer my own question. It seems that the three afformentioned breweries all have a similar IPA taste to me. Not too sweet and malty, an unfiltered full mouthfeel, citrusy aromas and flavor, and small batch fresh flavor.

Its the water, and some of the best brew masters out there!

Water has almost nothing to do with it since you can treat it any way you want. Look at San Diego. Horrible water quality, but great breweries. They have excellent brewers out there, but they also have a lot of hype since it's only recently they've been known for making quality stuff.

Though i really love what they are doing up north as far as IPAs, i truly believe Trillium has their number. At the very least they are equivalent. New England as a whole is starting to put out some top notch beers, especially IPAs.

VT seems to be full of crafty, quality focused entrepreneurs and I'm happy to support them.

I hear a lot of hype from around the country. Mostly about beers I can't get in CT. It's nice to have pride for your region.

I have never had Lawson's, Heady, or Hill Farmstead, but my guess is that the hype is much bigger than the actual quality difference. I'm sure those are amazing beers, just doubt that they are that much head and shoulders above similar offerings from around the country. Of course, if anyone wants to set up a trade and prove me wrong, I will happily send you whatever Chicago area IIPA you would like that I can obtain!

It's all beer. Using the same basic ingredients. How good can it get? We should just stop trying to top each other. Start working on consistency and distribution.

It's because they don't over-malt the fuck out of it. And they have a grasp on how to utilize hops to let them shine through. There are so many shitty malty DIPAs out there.

The hype is real. I hope you're saying this after having enjoyed some of these stellar, world-class offerings. Cheers.

I think the key ingredient is the extra dash of homerism.

Hype. And I do like VT IPA's, but they are good mostly because of the hype and the difficulty of acquiring said IPA's outside of the Northeast.

I'd have to say it's mainly due to the quality of brewers. Also, the water has to be a little part of the equation as well.

I don't bash Russian River or Bell's or Firestone Walker or Cigar City etc. These and many others sound exotic to me and I drool over the reviews. Maybe I'll try them on a vacation or maybe they may reach my neck of the woods some day within their freshness period. For now I'll look forward to New England breweries. Not saying they're better, just saying they're great.

Reading this just reminds me that I haven't any VT world-class double IPAs yet. :slight_frown:

SOS, Abner and Mastermind are three great DIPAs I really enjoyed while in VT but there are probably 5 DIPAs i would put right next to them from WA/OR...Heady wouldnt even be top 10 DIPA in WA/OR in my opinion.
