I think with the known issue with Abrassive it muddies the waters a bit. But it can lead to either side taking advantage of the situation.

Like others, I feel that the OP is being taken advantage of a bit here. This just doesn't feel right, unfortunately we will never really know the truth.

I could make a list longer than my arm of infected beers that I've unintentionally traded for over the past seven years. I've let my trading partners know if they've inquired, or read one of my reviews, but I've never gone crying back to my trading partner or cut down on what I was going to send them, then or in the future. Even if I suspected they knew before our deal that the beer blew.

There are nice people here, but unilaterally saying "I ain't sending you the beers we agreed on" isn't right. If you guys talked it over & this is where you ended & everyone is happy fine, but if someone pulled that on me (for a beer I didn't know was bad) I'd be (a) pissed, (b) trying to work it out, & (c) outing them if they refused to hold up their end of the agreement.

But there's always another side to the story. :grinning: I hope this has a happy ending.

I agree with this personally. It's not the OP's fault that the Abrasive cans are flat and a the time of shipping it's not reasonable that he would have known about it. It's not like anything here was due to his own problems (ie inadequate packaging, or untimely shipping). Trade was for the cans, he shipped the cans, he could have made right by getting them back but wasn't given the opportunity. Sucky situation but OP should get everything the trade was for.

@Raisingfable I think you need to expose your trade partner so they can explain their side of the situation. At the minimum, PM me their name so I know not to trade with them

I hope someone didn't see the Abrasive thread and attempt to get them at a discount (getting the OP to reduce what he was willing to accept) after the fact. That would be terrible. Hoping I am wrong.

OP, if you don't want to out him publicly I understand, but perhaps send him a private message alerting him to this thread and maybe he'll respond on his own accord

I agree that this has taken a troubling turn. I've received some Central Waters beers that were infected, as well as a few others, and have probably sent some out that didn't turn out great either (I can think of a few Ranger Creek beers that ended up with infection issues).

I never asked the other guy to replace them, or cared, because I knew it wasn't intentional - it's part of the risk we all take, with every beer we buy. If he had opened them, they would have been infected for him too.

Withholding beer or altering the trade is a crappy move - he should send you the whole thing he owes you, and then work something out to replace the Abrasive (that he conveniently "destroyed" - or drank...). If it were me, I'd ask you to send me another 4 pack, but provide you the label - seems fair to me.

Anyway, hope this gets worked out, but I feel like you're being taken advantage of, for something that was out of your control.

Very eloquently stated, Ken, as always.

I've been in touch with the OP, and I hate to see a new trader with his head & heart in the right place be treated this way by some supposed "veteran." It's not my place to name names, but a shitload of completed trades and a 2014 join date do not make you a veteran. I'll leave it at that.

Message me the name when you have a sec, Mark. And can we make the OP whole on this? Whats he about to lose out on?

I've seen it asked a couple times, but does anyone know what is supposedly being shorted?

I'm curious also, as well as what the overall trade was for. If it is something I have access to I will send it to the OP.

Sadly, I'm afraid there will be more trade issues with Abrasive in the near future.
What compounds the situation is the fact that Abrasive came out 2 months late this year.
There were tons of pre trades in place, and when it came out people were scrambling to get it out to their partners ASAP.
I noticed the problem the night it released and called a friend who had bad cans as well.
Tried to warn people the next day, but you know...mods saw it different I guess.
My bet is someone who had multiple trades in place reported my thread as repetitive.

OP is getting a raw deal.
His partner is taking advantage of a new trader - dick move, IMO.

I have not heard 1 case of all 4 beers out of a 4 pack having issues.
It's been pretty random, but almost everyone I know has had at least 1 bad can, so I truly believe the number of defects is quite high.

Hopefully more people aren't going to use the QC issue as a tool to benefit themselves.
I'm even more hopeful that Surly figures out the problem before the Abrasive brewing window closes again.

Especially since it sounds like they will be done with it around the same time as last year, so a much shorter window this year. Hope that isn't true, but with them bringing the new brewery online and probably scrambling to get up to speed and into Iowa and Wisconsin, I believe it.

I would like a DM with the name also please. That is not cool. Especially knowing that the OP is new to trading. An agreed trade is an agreed trade. look it up in the Man Hood Book page 16, paragraph 3, sentence 4. ha! No but seriously. that's a douchie move on the other guys end.
