Sierra Nevada seasonal 12-packs bottle dates already kind of old

I picked up the Sierra Nevada 4 way IPA collection today, and must admit that I am pretty disappointed. As this was pretty new to my store (in Ohio), and the fact that all the labels say 2015, why were they all bottled at the beginning of December? This was the same problem with the beer camp box this summer, all the hoppy beers were already almost two months old before I opened them.

As I prefer fresh ipas (as in I check bottle dates at stores to help determine which 6 pack I will be picking up that day) I guess I will just have to stop purchasing these boxes.

Are you disappointed in how they taste or the dates on the bottles? Just curious?

Blame the distribution channels not the brewery, probably sitting on a pallett for a bit in a warehouse.

The taste, i have had them all but the black ipa and none of them taste that great, especially the Tornado, which I have had much fresher many times.

I actually forgot to mention one of the biggest problems, the box is dated as being packaged 12/23/2014, and the bottles 12/08/14. SN is boxing up bottles that are already a month old, yet I can find less than two week old bottles of their other beer at stores all over.

They bottle condition, so you won't find same-week bottles.

For two weeks if I'm not mistaken. So, a beer bottled on 12/08 would be ready for final packaging on 12/22. Cheers!

They taste real fresh to me. Even at 4-6 weeks old. I recently bought a single Torpedo from Publix dated back to 9/2014. All Thier Torpedo and pale ale was 9/14. Seemed to taste fine. I think that Sierra Nevada holds up to age pretty well. Just drank a hoptimum in the back of my fridge from June, on new years eve. Tasted great

Most Sierra Nevada beers are conditioned in the bottles and take a few weeks to carbonate and be ready for consumption. That's why you don't typically see Sierra Nevada beers in stores the day after bottling.

    I think ...

Besides I find their beers just don't really fall off. Torpedo tastes fresh months after bottling.

Torpedo always tastes great to me. I mean, I had a 4.5 month old can back in December and it was solid.

Another "old outdated IPA" thread. Fantastic.

I was not aware of this. That makes sense that I can never find super fresh Torpedo, anything within a month is a rare find for me.

Also, they do specify "packed on" and "bottled on" dates. Anything in a 12 pack has a "packaged on" date, which is often not the same as the "bottled on" dates stamped on the beers themselves.

Have you even bothered to taste them yet. Or is this just conjecture?

I was really impressed with how quickly SN got their new Hoppy Lager here to shelves in WI. The date on the bottle is January 9th, and I saw it at Woodman's on Sunday the 18th, and it probably got here at least a few days before that.

in my opinion sierra nevada's beers hold up pretty well. a two month old torpedo is usually still pretty good

SN at a month old...isn't really old. As almost everyone stated the beer is bottle conditioned a couple of weeks at the warehouse.

I know this is a beer site and I know all we can do is talk about beer but this conversation gets old...if you want it fresher you might want to start brewing it yourself?

If you are wondering why I'm even commenting...it's 1:40 in the morning and I am having trouble sleeping or I would be in bed! Otherwise I wouldn't have even bothered...carry on.

Sierra Nevada recommends consumption within 120 days for most of their beers, and even 100 days. I think the beer is fine man.
