Does Beer Drinking Cause Hunger?

    First off, I've just enjoyed my first 2014 version of BCBS. But it made me think that whenever I drink my high ABV brews, I often get "the munchies"....much like I used to get (over 20 years ago) when I imbibed in "the weed". Anyone else get this effect when drinking good beer?
    BTW: I almost never eat while enjoying my favorite beer. I get hungry afterwards.
    Thoughts?

    I'm always hungry after a good session and, unfortunately, that is a bad combination.

    Yep, drinking any good alcohic bevvie gets me hungry, it's what we call an aperitif. As long as I have a fairly empty stomach, of course.

    I often like a little snack with my beer like a cookie with a stout or some salami with a pale ale, but I've never been the type who wants to eat a bunch once he gets drunk

    I get the beer munchies way worse than when I smoke a little cannabis. The fridge better watch out after I have a few cold ones.

    I can't understand how people are able to do other things while consuming an excellent beer, e.g., eating. I have singular focus, and I'm completely locked in when I'm enjoying one of my favorite IPAs. On a serious note, I don't want to alter my palate to the point that it negatively impacts the experience. I won't eat until I've had my last sip.

    To me it is like a sugar high then crash. Beer fills me up then about an hour later I am looking at the dog funny.

    In general, yes beer, as well as most other types of alcohol, tends to whet my appetite. However, some of those high abv Belgians, tripels and quads in particular, have the opposite effect and feel like a meal in and of itself. Another notable exception, off the top of my head, is Founder's Breakfast Stout. After finishing it I feel like I've drank dessert! So filling!

    Nothing better than getting smashed on BMC crap and cheap whiskey then destroying a plate of biscuits and gravy with bacon, eggs, and texas toast on the side at 4:30 a.m.
    ...at least in high school anyway

    Makes me hungry. Epsecially high ABV. Cheese, crackers/bread, cold cuts are good together.

    When I was younger, yes. Now if I drink a beer before eating (while I'm hungry) it actually tides me over for a while longer. Beer = food.

    Yes and the nearest Taco Hell is a few miles down the road! Good thing I have some Tortilla soft shells at the house!

    After drinking (especially high abv) I want to eat everything in site. Can't imagine why I'm getting fatter :rolling_eyes:
