Not very useful but sometimes interesting so why not.

think they are almost uniformly awful, but don't see the point in nuking them.

Everybody has to start with beer some how.... Everybody has to start with Beer Advocate some how.

I voted "don't care", but honestly see no reason to nuke them unless they get abusive.

I voted that I do not care, but I'd rather see 1000 of these threads than another session beer thread that turns into a shit fest about what exact percentage of alcohol should be considered...

Who doesn't enjoy a "6 month old celebration vs super fresh PTY" thread?

How about this: we agree to ignore the beer vs beer threads for the time being, but in return we nuke all the damn Hopslam threads instead.

Yeah, why not? It's not like anyone makes you respond to a certain item in a forum. I see alot of stupid worthless crap on here, but I just don't bother clicking on it. It's like any other debate in life (better band/better car/hotter girl/better movie...etc...) It only matters if you're interested in talking about it.

I voted yes. Read what you want to. Nobody is forcing anyone to read these threads.

I say no. We have 1.5 million beer reviews in the database for a reason. If somebody really wants to compare two beers, the person should taste both beers at the same time, takes notes on them, and publish on the notes on this website.

Just the fact that we're debating this, is reason enough for the debating to continue.

I agree to allow them. Personally, I'm not into them that much but I just stay away from them. If some people like them then great. If others don't like them, then they don't have to read them.

The biggest problem is the rarely do the people that start these threads even think about searching the forum to see if anyone else has posted something similar.

They don't bother me. If it isn't a worthy thread, then no one will reply and if no one replies, they will disappear into cyberspace. No harm done.

Very true. The other thing that is a HUGE pet peeve of mine is that very often in those types of threads the OP won't even offer their own opinion.

"Elder vs Younger - you be the judge!" (end entire initial post)
"Top 5 desert island beers - GO! (again, here the OP stops without participating in their own thread.

It's this spur of the moment laziness that irks me more than the topic...

Have some compassion, we all know this is a major hardship on people to put a bit of extra thought into a post ... dealing with first world problems will be the death of us.

The more freedom the better. I agree people are lazy, and while those threads hold no value to me, they seem like they hold some value to those posting in them, even if it's just argumentative entertainment. If you don't like a thread don't click on it, but don't stop others from having some fun.

The poll feature actually makes this interesting. It is stupid to hear 100 people arguinga bout what beer is hppier, but clicking one button makes this sort of fun.

I say allow them but they really should contain the poll feature.

I have always hated them due to the fact that most are not the same style of beer. I did post on one though (breaking my rule to never even open the thread) because they were the same style and I had had both of the beers in question. I say nuke them.

I say they should stay. I mean what is BA if not half fun and half informative. I do understand there can be plenty of trolling but it's one of those things where it's the people replying at fault and no the OP. IDK I'd be ok either way but it seems like more rules is never the answer.
