I've sent my parents to get Brewery releases. They will call me from line and point out how they are the oldest people in line and stand out like a sore thumb. I think they like it though.
They now send me e-mails and texts asking what brewery events they should attend and what beer they might like. I'm happy that I could expand their horizon AND get beer out of the process.

Probably the best thing I ever did. I asked a coworker who has family in Indiana to bring me back some zombie dust before I knew all the hype over it.

I have done it several times. Only with people that know and understand my hobby.

Usually will give them an extra 10 bucks or so for their troubles. By and large, people
seem excited to help me out.

Not necesarily a friend/coworker, but my dad has a salesman that works for him that is based out of NW Indiana. He has my number now and when he is heading over to northern ohio, he will shoot me a text asking what I want from 3 floyds. It's worked out quite well on numerous occasions. My dad has been going to indy more frequently and he always brings back sun king stuff. Other then that, I am WAY too picky and OCD and would rather get it myself then risk someone getting the wrong thing. Sounds like I'm a prick, but just the way I'm wired I guess.

A girl I work with travels up to Michigan every weekend during the summer, so I have her bring back Short's fairly regularly. She's always happy to help out, so it's not a big deal.

I have a friend who lives in St Pete and when he comes up to MD I ask him to bring me some Cigar City. I don't send a bunch of requests because he doesn't drink beer. I wouldn't mind asking and paying someone for their troubles.

My buddy lives in Wisconsin, and he's not a real big beer guy. That doesn't stop me from making him my Wisconsin beer mule.

Never a coworker, but a couple of times with friends or significant others. Oh, and I once had my mom pick up some Westbrook beers for me.

Someone who knows nothing about beer - never. I'll bring them beer hoping to expand their horizons. Why would I ask somebody picking up the 30-rack of Keystone to find me anything? It will just be aggravation for someone who knows nothing about beer and have a low probability of success. Besides, I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings by putting the beer they bring in on the floor and crushing it with the forklift...

People who do know beer, rarely. There's a small group at work that exchanges home brews or "finds" informally - nobody really needs to ask anybody - it's more like an offer. As in - "I'm going to XYZ can I pick anything up for you" or "hey, I heard about ABC and I'm gonna try it...want me to grab you some" but that's pretty much it.

Never anyone who knows nothing about craft beer. That is not cool. My kids I have asked to pick stuff up and I pick stuff up for them.

Never have never will. If they don't know anything or care about craft beer i am not going to make someone go out of their way for me.

If someone was in to beer and picking things up for themselves that is a different story!

I did it once when I had just left town and not half an hour later I get an email from the local bottle shop that they got some Cantillon Saint Lamvinus in, first come first serve. I texted a buddy who lived in the area, but isn't as in to beer, to stop by if he could and grab a bottle for me. He agreed. I didn't want to harass him about it so a couple days later I texted him again to see if he was successful. He replied that he totally forgot.

Now I just prefer to get my hopes crushed right away, and don't bother asking...but honestly I just don't like asking others to run around for me. You win some, you lose some is the way I see it.

Not quite the same thing, but I have a relative who knows I like craft beer---however he never asks me what styles or brands I like, and usually manages, out of the many craft beers out there, to get something either not very good or in a style I don't care for.

Bless his heart, as we say down here.

I would never bother someone who doesn't care about craft beer to actually waste time during his/her day for my hobby. Now if they know how obsessed I am and ask to help, then all bets are off.
