What was your first "good" beer, & was it a profound experience.
Mine was Weyerbacher Autumnfest way back in my partying days, the late '90s. I had a hippie buddy who I would party with on occasion, and he picked up a case before I came over. He was a BIG Weyerbacher fan & all I knew up to that point was BMC shit. I Thought I didn't like beer till that day, but when I took my first sip I said "wow, if this is what good beer tastes like, I'm a fan!" & I have been ever since! :grinning:

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away (grad school in Iowa City) at an old place called the Mill (which got hit by a tornado in 2006, but that's another story), I had a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on tap for the first time, and I was in beer heaven.

As I neared Damascus on my journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around me.

Although I always was willing to pay extra for a better beer, a lot if that was the "better BMC" stuff (like Killians) or imports (Molson), which are far from what I like now. Pete's Wicked I recall, but didn't appreciate SNPA then (still not a huge fan of THAT beer, but definitely appreciate the brewery now). A bit of a late bloomer (but in an area that didn't have that local place doing it right - Old Dominion probably the closest), I'd have to say having beers at the DFH brewpub nearby was the straw, although places like Sweetwater Tavern get an assist.

Was canoeing on the Russian River in college normally bought Coors but decided to mix it up and buy Sierra Nevada. It was my first real day of drinking a craft beer. Changed my life.

Not my first good beer experience, but trying La Vie En Rose on cask the first time I went to Jester King was like a revelation.

Many wouldn't consider it "Good" but for me it was a classic Guinness.

In college I worked at a liquor store. Before that I was strictly a Budweiser man. I tried some farmhouse ale with my manager and that's all it took. I got into Belgians and IPAs first. Then all hell broke loose.

Hair of the Dog, Doggie Claws barleywine.

I had never drank anything outside of malt liquor/corona/bud prior to that. Friend of mine took me to this fancy hipster bar up north, with what seemed like hundreds of beers on tap. I had no idea wtf I was looking at.
So I just chose the one with the highest ABV.

I've been in love with barleywine and craft beer ever since

Guinness on tap in Dublin, circa 2008. It really is better there.

Good beer is subjective. I recall having a St. Ides before a Public Enemy concert and that was a next level malt liquor maneuver.
