Without Craft Beer

    Brown Ale
    Amber Ale
    Porter
    Dry Stout
    Milk Stout
    IPA
    Saison
    Witbier
    Wheat Ale
    Hefeweizen
    Berlinerweisse
    Bock Beer
    Helles
    Barleywine
    Winter/Christmas warmers
    Gose
    and dare I say it Pilsner and other Light Lagers.

    Ditto! At lead none produced by my own country and community. We'd be totally reliant on imports (which I do enjoy). But thank you Messers Maytag, McAuliffe, Grossman, Koch, Barkley, Hindy, Potter, Calagione, Koch, and all others who followed (and continue to follow) and inspire others to grow this wonderful beverage that is craft beer!

    Without Craft Brewers we would all be drinking mass produced adjunct light lager. That used to be it.

    Don't forget lambics, gueuze, & other wild ales. Or doppelbocks, eisbocks, IIPA, RIS, IPL, biers de garde , de champagne & de table, weizenbocks, CA & KY commons, rauchbiers, and countless others.

    But more importantly, WTH is the matter with your browser? When I tried to quote you, I got a ridiculous amount of spacing/indentation.

    ...I probably wouldn't drink beer at all. Assuming Blue Moon and other "looks like it would be a smaller brewery's beer at a glance but is actually made by the big beer industry" beers wouldn't exist without "real" craft beer, anyway. Mixed drinks every now and then when I'm at a place that serves them, but otherwise there'd be no alcoholic beverages in my diet at all.

    I'd probably also still be drinking soda, so I wouldn't have lost the weight I lost recently due to cutting soda out of my diet entirely.

    The one upside: I probably would have at least a little bit more money since I wouldn't be spending any of it on beer. XD

    ... I'd be 20 lbs lighter and have a pretty righteous wine cellar. Unfortunately, I'd know way, way less about beer in general. So, life would still be good, I'd just be a bit lighter and a bit more ignorant. :slight_smile:

    I've never heard such abject nonsense.The world was awash with these beers before the so-called "craft" revolution took place.There are breweries in Belgium, Germany and the UK which actually exported some of their products.Isn't there a tiny brewery in Ireland brewing Dry Stout? White Shield has been brewing IPA since 1829.What's called "saison" these days isn't saison at all.JW Lees manage a fair barley wine and I'm sure the Germans could just come up with a drop of Helles.

    Absolutely correct, not here in the USA though. You are such an advocate of cask conditioned ale, if you get it here (USA, not UK) there is a very high probability that it is from a micro-brewer. You are comparing apples and oranges to say the least. You didn't take it in its proper context of what was widely available in the USA prior to 1980. I guess I should have clarified that from the beginning.

    I would challenge you to find JW Lees here in the states today much less 20-30 year ago.

    My point was just that these beers were available to you though perhaps involving difficulty and expense. Except saison which is supposed to be a rustic farmhouse beer around 3 to 4% ABV and as individual as the farmhouse brewing it.
    I picked JW Lees as an example of a barleywine but back then there was Thomas Hardy and Gold Label to think of just a couple.
    Most of the cask ale I drink now comes from one of the 1400 or so microbreweries dotted around ,one of my "go to" beers is a superbly accurate copy of the beer I drank 50 years ago.Makes me think how lucky we were then :slight_smile:
