I will be culturing some from heady cans i have saved up, however i would like to buy some commercial as well just in case i mess this up i dont want to have 5 gallons of wort and no yeast.

Seems that it is sold out everywhere i look? Am i missing a sweet spot or is it hard to come by?

Yeast bay is the best conan I've had to use.. Didn't bother to check to see if in stock, but would assume so.

Out of stock on their site. almost all of their yeast was sold out.

Im gonna do the Heady clone from over on HBT, then might start looking at Focal Banger clones

Heady clones are abundant, focal you might have some leg work to do. There's a thread here if I recall about discussing some of what we all thought was taking place as a starting point, but I've yet to see something substantial anywhere.

    Good luck.

Northern Brewer carries Yeast Bay Vermont Ale Yeast for their Off The Topper kits, but if you call your order in, you can order some without having to order the kit. They don't sell it online, but get your order ready, call it in and push for the yeast and they'll eventually give up

Northern Brewer wants to bend me over on shipping up here. I was going to give their off the topper kit a try until i realized it would cost me $98 after shipping for their AG kit.

For one pack of Wyeast they want $20.51 for ground shipping.

Try WLP090. Its not conan or the Yeast bay but it does a really nice job with hop heavy beers. I have had great success with it.

Nick from The Yeast Bay here. The only reason we're out of Vermkot Ale (and a lot of other stuff) is because I totally goofed my order strategy trying to plan my orders around the two new lager strains we're putting out. We'll have more in stock of a lot of our stuff tomorrow, including Vermont Ale. Cheers!

WLP095 Experimental Ale is Conan, but I'm not sure if you can find it or not. Second on 090 though as I think it's a much better strain.

I think Heady is a great beer, but the low floc of the yeast is one of the things I like least about it. Also Conan can be finicky with Diacityl if you don't pay attention to fermentation.

A local lab that just started making homebrew size pitches called omega yeast labs, their "DIPA ale" is conan. The only place i know to get it is brewandgrow.com, a lhbs here in the Chicago/metro area.

The link at the top of the page/beginning of thread for ritebrew.com is the Omega Labs version...I've heard not so good things about the Omega Labs vs Yeast Bay Conan strains. Can anyone with experience elaborate on their thoughts of the Omega Labs version vs Yeast Bay discussion?

Can you tell us more about your new lager strains?

    Cheers!

I've never had any diacityl issues with Conan but I have had issues with attenuation. It also will floc pretty well if you treat it right. Let it cold crash long enough and have a high enough Calcium level it will drop out.

I'll check back into this thread with my experience with the omega strain, the ipa that I brewed with "conan" should be ready to open on friday.

Thanks for the update, however i already ordered the Omega version. Ill give this batch a go and next batch give you guys version a go and see which i like better or if the are equally as good. Or if you guys want to send me a version of yours and i can split my batch in half and do a side by side comparison?

    Thanks for the heads up

Read above. Purchased the omega labs version from Ritebrew from the link provided by the first commenter.

Hoping thats just malarky and that they are created equally, however i plan on using conan for the next few batches of IPAs i brew so ill also try Yeast bays version.

The omega version was just fine for me. It's the only Conan strain I've used so can't compare... I used it in my plinian legacy recipe and it did great. Fermented down just like I hoped it would. I'm about to do the same kit with standard Chico strain to see how it compares.
