With lots of fuss surrounding the Budweiser (beer snob) Super Bowl Commercial, I thought it would be neat to see how many of you craft beer drinkers enjoy a Bud (or other macro lager) from time to time. Personally, I enjoy a Budweiser once in a great while (in fact, I'm drinking one right now), although it's far from my favourite. In the summertime especially, I'd much rather have a Budweiser or a Coors while I'm mowing the lawn than a DIPA or other complex brews. Judging from a lot of the talk on here and the reviews, a lot of people hate on the Big Three but I believe that they do have their rightful spot in a beer drinkers world. Tell me what you guys think on the issue.

I was not in the slightest offended by that commercial, and I totally think they have their spot.

....that spot, however, is not in my fridge.

I've been known to drink a Yuengling on occasion, and on even rarer occasions Land Shark; that's about as close as I get though and it makes up maybe 1% of my annual consumption.

I understand that many have that view and I do agree with that perspective for the most part. I normally only deviate from my craft beer when I am offered a beer from a buddy or it if its the only option. Like I said in my initial post, I also will go for a Bud if I'm mowing the lawn and don't have time to really enjoy the beer (I don't think one can really truly enjoy a macro lager).

Toppling Goliath Dorothy New World Lager. My girlfriend loves it. I enjoy it whilst lawn mowing and other man-activities. I completely believe there is a place for these types of beers. Some people just can't drink heavier more complex stuff. On the brewers side, I really think that it helps a brewery gain acceptance and notability outside the craft beer world.

They certainly have their spot, as evidenced by their overwhelming domination of the beer drinking market.
You should not assume that your only choices for lawnmower beers other than BMC are "DIPAs or other complex brews". Ever hear of a pale ale? Pilsner? Witbier? Or even a mild? ABV does not equate to flavor.

I've tried to bring many of my friends over to the craft beer world but you're totally spot on with what you said; many simply can't drink the more complex stuff.

I'll have Yuengling occasionally, but almost never from purchasing it. I had some Coors original not too long ago, but because it was given to me and you never turn down a free beer.

No, I get it, completely. I think there is a time and a place, certainly for some people. For me, I'd rather have an IPA or a session IPA while mowing the lawn, or something relatively light. If I'm in the mood for a light lager, then an ostensibly "macro" brand like Spaten hits the spot.

I have been known to partake of Stella Artois or even Amstel Light, even. Miller Lite has its place. By and large, though, if I'm limited to the basic B/M/C options, then I'm usually looking for something completely different (i.e. liquor). But don't take my earlier jest too seriously; I had a Budweiser (Bud heavy) just the other day at the casino, because I was tired of drinking old fashioneds. I don't generally enjoy a macro lager, but that doesn't mean that I never enjoy one.

    Much ado about nothing.

While I shouldn't be, I'm still more surprised that Craft Beer knerds and Hipsters have felt slighted by the ad.

By now I would have thought that 10% of the market had grown thicker skins!

I'm totally aware of those other brews. One of my other mower brews is Stiegl Pils which I enjoy very much. I would just rather drink Bud on the mower and give my time to a craft beer when I can really focus on it and enjoy it thoroughly.

Spot on. It really isn't an issue, I'm just trying to stir up a discussion!

I think many of us would still stick to our tasteful brews than really take what Bud has to say. Am I right?!

I don't buy it but I'll drink one if you hand it to me, and I'll thank you for it.

And that's exactly why I go for a macro lager once in a great while. Well said

Unless it's free, never. The only lagers I drink regularly contain no rice, and are classic German styles. Only lager I've personally brewed thus far has been a Munich Helles. I hope to expand on that.
