Too many good craft lagers out there to drink macro. I will drink them if i'm at someone's house and it is all that is offered.

I honestly haven't had any craft Lagers. Are there any widely distributed ones you recommend?

Definitely a time and a place for most beers. Mowing the lawn: bud=yes (although if Would choose Nargansett or craft pils if I could). Was at a meeting tonight, had free Coors light--drank water instead.

You think they would've had another option besides water

Since the market here in Japan is so dominated by the the "Big 4" of Asahi, Sapporo, Kirin and Suntory, I often don't have a choice. If you are out and about on the town usually you just have to drink whatever beer they have, and its one of those. At home I almost always drink either homebrew or a craft something, either imported or local. All of that said, sometimes it can be nice on a hot summer day to sit down in the A/C and slam back a few ice cold mugs of Asahi Super Dry. I would never want to ice an IPA like that! Though I suppose that is the whole point with the "tastes like water that gets you drunk" flavors of mass market lager.

I didn't realize you were from Japan! I'm sure the beer market is much different there compared to Canada with the exception of Sapporo (we call it Japanese Bud here)! Now that I think of it, I have had a few Pilsners which are technically Lagers. Most of the craft beer around here are Ales!

Yeah it is really different. Whats funny is there are several examples of a "stout" being made with lager yeast. They market the beer as stout, but its not! Its a Dunkel. Heh. I will admit that Kirin Stout is pretty good, for a beer I can buy at most convenience stores. (Now Asahi Stout is actually brewed with Ale yeast and is a fantastic beer. It is really hard to find though.)

It's a cheap macro. People, put your beer snobbery aside and accept the fact that Budweiser is drinkable. I personally drink AB products all the time, and I'm not ashamed of it.

Who counts as "macro" again? Bud/Miller/Coors obviously, but I see Yuengling mentioned by a couple replies here and think "huh? don't they only distribute to the east coast? how 'macro' can they be if their distribution is less than half what the bigger craft breweries have?"

But if Yuengling's amber lager counts, then that's probably what I drink the most out of that category. Canned rather than bottled if I have the choice; I know green bottles aren't the best at blocking light, but even knowing that I was really surprised at how much better the canned version seemed. Still haven't tried it on tap, but there's a place near here that offers it so I know I'll get around to that eventually.

As far as B/M/C products, I'll have a Kilian's Irish Red occasionally and Blue Moon was my introduction to beer as a whole, though I haven't really gone back to it since (I'll still have one when eating out every now and then if there isn't anything new I'm itching to try on the beer menu, but the six-packs seem a bit overpriced when you look at what else you can get for the same $9.49 around here.) Pretty sure I read recently that Peroni is owned by one of those guys now too, and I've had that several times at local Italian places, though I'm finding that I like that one less each time I have it (wondering if that's a green-bottle issue too? the last one I had did have a bit of a "skunk" sort of smell to it when I first poured it, though it wasn't overwhelmingly gross or anything)... so I may switch to ordering Yuengling or Kilian's when I have a beer at those places (...or try a Michelob, I think they both have that too.)

I've never actually had regular ol' Budweiser, Coors, Miller, or their various "light" versions so far, though I don't think I'd turn one of them down if someone offered one to me. I actually was considering buying a few of these sorts of beers just to try them earlier today (one thought that came to mind was "if I'm ever in a place where this kind of thing is the only option, it'd be a good idea to know which of the common cheap lagers I'd rather have"), since I noticed the local gas station stores have individual 16-ounce cans of several of them for a dollar or so. I might still do that at some point.

There are far better lagers available, why drink BMC? It's not "Dipa or BMC". I'll take Czechvar/Budweiser Jever, Dortmunder Gold, Brooklyn Lager, Jabby Brau, Weihenstepaner, local Toronto lagers, or even cheap as hell Bavarian lagers like Spaten Helles.

I had an Alexander Keith's and Molson recently and was reminded why I hated beer in high school.

If BMC tastes like water, it's the nasty water that screams "BRITA".

As usual with me, I can't vote because the intent of the poll is not clear. Where would Spaten fall? Or small independents like Straub? If this is just about the AALs produced by the big guys but not by the smaller ones, then Yuengling shouldn't count. Etc...

Last summer I bought a case of Miller High Life pounder cans for a shindig and only a few were consumed at said shindig so I drank a lot of those last summer. Yuengling graces my fridge occasionally but like @TongoRad said, is that a macro...? When I meet my dad on Saturdays for a beer it's at a dive bar where there's no craft in sight (not even SA Boston Lager!) so it's PBR, Miller... or, they do have Straub... but then again... is Straub a macro...? I'll probably keep some cheap macro on hand again this summer, but I'm 99% craft.

I drink water if there's not a beer available that I like.

I'm not interested in getting drunk anymore and crappy beer isn't worth the calories to me.

I pick up a couple 30-packs in the summer. I have nothing against the flavor of macros and enjoy them during the warmer weather. Yes, I would rather have German lagers, but I rarely see them at a price point that wins over the more readily available AALs.
