Not a huge fan of this one. Weird burnt coffee notes.

Bottled in November and poured 2/4/15. $9 for a bomber.

Appearance: Hard pour didn't do much. Modest half-finger head that went away in no time. The color is orange with a moderate haze. No lacing.

Smell: Some sweet malt and then a decent amount of coffee -- like coffee with some cream and a bit of sugar added. Pretty nice aroma, but no depth here.

Taste/feel: That sweet coffee comes through in the flavor, but what's getting me is a bizarre "off" bitterness from the middle of the sip until the end and even in the aftertaste... it's hard to describe. It isn't a hop bitterness or a roast bitterness -- just this weird... metallic (?) bitterness. That bitterness gives this beer a bit of a burnt coffee kind of thing that is really off-putting. The flavor is decent, but the strange bitterness isn't working for me. And no, I didn't just eat something strange or brush my teeth or chew gum. The feel is fair; maybe medium bodied with a moderate-to-high prickling carbonation.

I was looking forward to this beer because I thought it might taste like an imperial version of Bean Flicker from the Michigan brewery Odd Side... but nope, it's not. Nice concept that had potential, but the bizarre unnatural bitterness kind of ruins this one for me. I'd still recommend trying it because it's a cool idea, but don't expect too much. To me, the bitterness is similar to Stone's Coffee Milk Stout dealie they released a few months back... and so, it gets a nearly identical rating.

    3.47/5 (-7.2% rDev)

Cheers, BA! Hope you're drinking something better. :flushed:

Taking the day off to brew a batch of Centennial IPA. Taking this opportunity to tip back a very nice Smuttynose Bouncy House IPA. Whoever said hump day had to be a pain...

A Zombie Dust bottled yesterday while watching the flakes descend upon us once again. Just a beautiful color against the stark landscape. Cheers to the hump!

Which batch is that if you don't mind me asking? I'm wondering since I heard some negative stuff about #31 not having any head, and yours obviously does. Cheers!

Not a problem! Batch #46 here's a couple of pictures I just took

I have only tried this batch and number 42? I think was the number, whatever the batch was before 46. Maybe 43. I liked it a little better, more of a smokey coffee taste but i love these no matter what the batch. SOOOOOO underrated, it makes me sad.

    Cheers!

I agree. It was different. I wouldn't buy it on the regular, but I did enjoy it well enough when I had it, especially since I brought it to an Indian restaurant where it paired nicely with the highly spiced foods. I kinda wish I had bought one more.
