Brooklyn Lager is good, especially on draft watching a Rangers game in MSG. Yuengling is also a good choice.

Yuengling is not an amber lager, it is in the brown adjunct category and is it gross imo.

I really like these styles. To me, Dundee makes the best red. A local, Coop Native Amber is my favorite in the amber category. I don't know why they're grouped together. They are distinct from each other, In My Opinion.

Is Blue Point Toasted Lager still being brewed at the Blue Point brewery?

    Cheers!

Thanks! I am curious on when AB will make a decision to start brewing Toasted Lager at AB breweries (e.g., Baldwinsville, NY).

    Cheers!

Apparently, not all of it. (New label approval dated 12/14)

(Probably easily determined by AB's bottle coding).

    JK, thanks for your post.

As you can read above I was suspecting a transition.

Do you have any idea how much Toasted Lager is brewed at the Blue Point Brewery vs. the AB brewery? I suspect that it is only a matter of time that all Toasted Lager will be brewed at an AB brewery(s) for economic reasons.

    Cheers!

I'm sorry, but I don't think you should be schooling folks on lagers.

Was also a big fan of Jacks Abby Lashes Lager, but that isn't something I can regularly buy. Brooklyn Lager is also very enjoyable.

Nope, no idea (and, the existence of the label does not necessarily mean the BPTL on the shelves is already coming from Baldwinsville but they wouldn't have put in the COLA if they didn't intend to need it eventually). Certainly brewing the brand's flagship off-site would relieve the brewery of any capacity problems intially. In some similar cases, locally distributed draught comes from the original brewery, and the bottles/cans outsourced. AB also has Toasted Lager COLA's for both the can and keg labels as well.

My thought is that AB will brew Toasted Lager at AB breweries because they could do so more cost effectively; large scale brewery = economy of scale.

    Cheers!

If you're ever around the Rochester area, check out Rohrbach's Highlander Lager. Solid example of the style, mild bitterness, and pretty malt forward.

Surprised it took so long for the first nugget nectar vote.

The Blue Point brewery on LI has a fairly small brewhouse (10-15 bbl) and only brews the draught versions of their popular items for regional distribution (iirc). The 12 oz. bottles have always been contracted out, so it's only the 'where' that's changed. I bet that's the way it's still being done, with the probable addition of more draught coming from the larger breweries in the network.

Michael, prior to the purchase of Blue Point by AB who performed the contract brewing for Blue Point?

    Cheers!

It was Clipper City in the early aughts, but then they changed. I'm sorry, but I don't know who took over from there.

From the Blue Point website FAQ:

“Blue Point beers sold in six-packs are contract-brewed by High Falls Brewery in Rochester, New York…”

    Cheers!

Pretty sure Genesee and City Latrobe were involved - and maybe? way back Mendocino-whatcha call it Olde Saratoga, (upstate NY), too.
