best by dates are often conservative or liberal.

Been a while since I had it...but if I remember correctly (and there is a distinct possibility that I don't), it actually stands up pretty well to time. A couple months old shouldn't really be that big of a deal.

Usually about 5 seconds. Oh, you mean best by dates…I thought you meant if I'm holding it in my hand.

I typically buy at least one case a year and find that for my tastes its best between two and six weeks after bottling (which is 4 months before the best by date). During the first two weeks I find it just a bit harsh. After about two weeks it smooths out with a nice mix of hop and malt flavors and then at about 6 weeks the hops begin to slowly fade.

But that said, I don't mind drinking it anytime within the bottling to best by period. And have enjoyed a few bottles post best by date if for some strange reason it happens to be around that long.... :-)

My personal feeling is that Troeg's has enough experience with this beer and feedback on it that they have a pretty good handle on their best by date.

It doesn't last long. They send it and it flies off the shelf. (JK) It lasts about 3 months or maybe a bit more. I mean it all depends on your ability to taste the features that the others like about the beer. Right? This one is hoppy but also malty and lasts a bit longer because it's more malty. (imho)

    any ideas on the cans?
from what I gather they are a relatively new staple; within the last year or so.
I will grab a few bottles. But the pounders are my stylie.

The 4pk box for the cans said drink(or enjoy) by 4-15-15. It was canned on 1-15-15, so the brewery says 3 months.

My personal experience is the same as @drtth , a best by timeframe of 2 - 6 weeks post bottling date. I bought some canned 4-packs this year. My guess is that the canned Nugget Nectar beers will have a broader best by timeframe; I will know better in a couple months.

    Cheers!

Drinking some of the 1/15/15 cans right now and it's great but am sure with any hoppy beer it will start to fall of after 8 weeks or so. I don't see me having any left in that time frame. Unless I meet an untimely death!

This probably isn't all that helpful for general use, but just for the record, a friend of mine had a six pack that got misplaced in his basement for about a year and a half (long story). It was at worst room temperature down there and there wasn't much light, but nonetheless it was fairly undrinkable. Super malty sweet with an almost vinegary edge to it.

Drink it fresh, and ask less questions. I wouldn't go beyond 90 days, as a general rule. The fresher, the better.

I buy and drink a lot of NN.
While it is best fresh, I end up drinking it through may. Memorial day weekend is my cut off point

90 days Refrigerated. 45 days non Refrigerated. That's my usual rule of thumb.

It probably takes someone who drinks this beer repeatedly to answer that question for the proper comparison. The only time that I had the beer I felt the hop flavor was probably past prime, although it was within the best-by date. (Either that or I just don't like the hops in that beer -- oh the heresy!! :grimacing:) However, I don't recall how fresh it might have been.

Everyone's experiences will vary, but personally I don't think NN holds up well over time. Nugget Nectar for me is much better fresher but you might like it better with a bit of age on it than I do. Don't take my word for it, the best way for you to find out is to try it for yourself.

I'd probably pass on any older than 2 months or so. Anything within a couple months of bottling/canning will taste great. After that you're running the risk of it losing something.
