Im taking a trip to cleveland in a few months and looking for some suggestions of beer related places to stop. Breweries or bottle shops specifically. I am already planning on stopping at Cellar Rats and Great Lakes. Basically i will be traveling along the 90 from ny to cleveland, with no flexibility to stray too far off that path. Id really like some suggestions of bottle shops so i can try to get some beers that arent available in distro in new york. Any suggestions much appreciated.
A trip to Willoughby Brewing would be good, along with the aforementioned Fat Head's. I would also skip Cellar Rats. Tremont Tap House is a great bar minutes away from Great Lakes. Not many good bottle shops in the downtownCleveland/Tremont/Ohio City area. You may want to travel 10 minutes west on 90 to Lakewood, where you will find Lizardville, Simone's, Rozi's, etc.
Yes drive down detroit road west of 117th street and you pass at least 5 solid bottle shops. Ez stop is a gas station you wouldn't tjink.much of but worth a stop east of West 117th street on Clifton ave. Fat heads....best brewery in town. I said it. Someone had to say it!
You can only like so many beers over so many styles before you realize that's all you need! They do everything so well.
Do any of you BAs actually read the post or did you stop at the thread title !? Last time I was in Ohio, Fatheads was in Strongsville, a ways west of Cleveland. ...waiting for the guy to suggest Columbus Brewing.
It is actually less than 10 minutes from I-90, 15 to 20 minutes west of downtown Cleveland in North Olmsted. I-90 to Columbia Road exit, south on Columbia until you see it on your left. You're probably thinking of Brew Kettle, which is in Strongsville.
Skip Cellar Rats, don't follow the Nano Brew suggestion (they're not really a brewery - more of a taproom. They only brewed 9 bbl in house last year). Willoughby is a good choice, as is Platform. I would do Willoughby -> Great Lakes -> Platform -> Fat Heads -> nap.
The Fat Heads Production Brewery is in Middleburg Heights, just north of Strongsville, but the brewpub in North Olmsted is an easy 15-20 min trip from the downtown Cleveland area. Both are great spots to check out for different reasons. The brewpub has a larger food menu and several guest taps and the production brewery is just a cool place to hang out and generally not nearly as busy as the brewpub.
Thanks for all the suggestions....i think ill try my best to get to Fatheads if i can by the way it sounds.
